BS: Non alcoholic Chicago area Celtic show

I thought I would let Chicago/Northern Illinois area mudcatters know that we're helping present a mini-celtic festival Friday March 9 in a smoke free, non-alcoholic setting (sort of like First night celebrations). It's at the Villa Park VFW Hall at 39 E. St. Charles Road in Villa Park at 7:30 PM. Performers include Ontario's Ken Brown; Cooper, Nelson & Early (my band); the great Kat Eggleston; and storyteller Dan Keding. The Rampant Lion Celtic traders will be selling their wares there as well. E-mail me at coopnel@aol.com for ticket price information, directions. Thanks. Phil Cooper

Thanks, Brian. We can emphasize the quieter end of the celtic spectrum during the concert. Ironically, last couple years, we've wound up going out for a couple beers after the show.

Hey Ken Brown... cool... I'd amost be willing to endure a non-smoking, dry site to see that wee wee man again...

Someone ask him to do "Jabberwocky" for me would ya!!

;-)

"Quieter end"? Not when Dan Keding gets going if he decides to tell one of his noisy stories.

I hope they give people a longish interval to give time for a hasty jar at half-time.

Just how do you do "Celtic" without beer? Inquiring minds want to know..........

Celtic music without beer is possible. This just means folks can bring their kids and people can listen to the music. We generally go out for a beer after the show. All the musicians we've asked to participate have enjoyed playing for us.

Phil,
The post show activities sound like an excuse to try out some sea chanteys ... any excuse will do ...
I think that there are one or two chantey-singing Chicago lurkers who may feel the same way.
Cheers,
Brian

actually, the place we've gone has that obnoxious blaring rock music going. Usually we're just hungry and want to unwind with a guinness or two and burger. I've heard rumors that Kat Eggleston is wanting to try a Sunday afternoon/early evening singing session at the Harp & Shamrock in Chicago, after the tune guys have gone home. I'll ask her next Friday about how things are progressing.

Celtic music without beer? It can be done. It can even be fun. And you can guarantee that somewhere around the edges, before and after, there will be beer.

I was going to say that its perfectly feasible to not have beer involved at all, but have realized that's not very likely, and it does do something for the ambience...however, not _everybody_ has to be involved with it...
