01 Mar 01 - 09:53 AM (#408752) Subject: RE: BS: Gwyl Ddewi Dda From: sian, west wales I've just come back from town where there's a serious "Ahhh" factor happening. The proverbial children's parade - 2 miles long and 3 feet high - trouping through the centre in their Welsh costumes, and each school singing their allotted pieces in the shopping precinct. A lot of the shops have decorated their windows, and all the pubs are serving cawl. Bright sunshine, and a real relief from all the current worries in rural Wales! Looking forward to a Boozy hymn-sing in the pub tonight! As Dewi Sant would've said, Gwnewch y pethau bychain! ( Do the little things!) Rock on, Dewi. sian

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the Foot/Mouth doesn't get up your way as that's where our family farms are. Worrying times. But, as you say ... the sun IS shining! sian |

01 Mar 01 - 03:52 PM (#408967) Subject: RE: BS: Gwyl Ddewi Dda From: Jon Freeman Nothing to that one Animaterra, just boil the leeks and make a cheese sauce - as you would do with cauliflower cheese or brocolli cheese and serve with whatever else you might fancy. I did't have leeks for tea BTW - I had forgotton I had had a chicken dinner from yesterday. Maybe tomorrow... I think my mum has some leeks growing in the garden and I don't think you can beat fresh home grown vegetables. Jon |

02 Mar 01 - 04:24 AM (#409331) Subject: RE: BS: Gwyl Ddewi Dda From: sian, west wales I'm all for that, Liz. And Dewi isn't around to disagree - remembering that he only ever drank water! Strikes me as not a bad idea ... but it is, after all, The Morning After the Night Before now. (ooo - my head.) Jon, thanks for the Blue Clicky! We get into arguments at the pub as to the right way to make cawl, 'cause there are so many regional variations. Some use a hambone, some use lamb. I've never had one with cabbage but, heck, all's fair in love and soup. Hollowfox, you probably know this but some people get confused: oatmeal is the fine, flour-y stuff, not rolled oats. It does make a difference. My dad always had to have a bowl of oatmeal on the table "to sprinkle" when Mum made clear soups. Well, anyway, there's Dewi done and dusted for another year. Thanks for the goodwishes, all. sian |
