Lyr Req: Armstrong Tourist Rest Home

Anyone got the chords and lyrics to this unsettling dream-like song by Canadians Alan Fraser and Daisy DeBolt, recorded back in the early 1970's? Some would remember it for its "overnight sensation" chorus line. I've sifted through some of the old threads with references to Fraser and DeBolt but haven't found this one, yet.

Oh, if anyone has the lyrics, I'd be so grateful! F & D performed at my college on the (in)famous Coffee House Circuit, and when I bought their (first?) album, I was really miffed because somebody decided to eliminate the song and just put in the non-verbal vocals from the end of the number. (grumph)

Hollowfox, how could anyone be so crass? The song's images of cowboys, magic mushrooms, bootprints still lingers after all these years. I doubt that Fraser & DeBolt ever settled down to selling insurance. The search for those who have the technical sophistication will be rewarding. Dig, dig, dig!

The chorus has risen to the surface and runs:

Your love for me is an overnight sensation,
My love for you is an overnight sensation too –
My, my, my.

Someone said there was a Daisy DeBolt website still floating around.

There is indeed a Daisy DeBolt web site.

True, Jim, and I'm still too lazy to transcribe this brilliant song and figure out its chords.

Daisy Debolt lives somewhere in the Bulkley Valley/ Burns Lake/ Telkwa area of north western British Columbia, (about half-way between Prince George and Prince Rupert on Highway 16, if you have a road atlas handy)
Telkwa is local famous (or infamous) for the high percentage of talented bluegrass-oriented musicians who live around that fine community.

Daisy DeBolt has had at least one CD out in the past few years, and you might be able to contact her by sending a request either to CBC Radio in Vancouver or the main office in Toronto, Ontatio. You could also find her by emailing the library system in that area.
I've heard cuts from her recent CD and it's worth trying to acquire.
Barring that, you can track her down through the performing rights organization, SOCAN, via either their Vancouver or Toronto offices.

I haven't heard anything about Fraser since the late '70's.

Well, I promise to at least transcribe and post the words to this one this winter.

I'm puzzled. I found this "song" at Spotify performed by Fraser & DeBolt with Ian Guenther, on their self-titled album, and I listened, but it's all instrumental. It's the same on 2 other albums: Fraser & DeBolt's "Psychedelic Folk Essentials" (2011) and the various-artists collection "Acoustic Folk Generation Songs" (2011). Only this version had lyrics (transcribed by me):

ARMSTRONG TOUREST [sic] REST HOME
Written by Daisy DeBolt
As sung by George Elliott on "Child of the Moon" (2004)

Reason I get so upset when you talk this assuredly
Is where on earth is it leadin'?
Cowboys had trouble with readin'.
Mistletoe is leaving a head on your shoulders.

My, my, my!
Your love for me is an overnight sensation.
My love for you it's an overnight sensation too.

Constance, what a name! You should 'a' said Felicity.
How did you hear I was hungry?
That's nonsense, Marie, and you know it.
Girl has made you a little bit bolder.

My, my, my!
Your love for me is an overnight sensation.
My love for you it's an overnight sensation too.

Now that the whole thing is over,
Heaven knows what I'll do.
I might try to get back to the clover,
Or I might stay and wait for you.

[Daisy DeBolt's web site (see above) shows that she made (at least) 6 albums, not counting the "Fraser & DeBolt" albums.

[Daisy DeBolt died October 4, 2011. There is a thread about her here: Obit: RIP Daisy DeBolt (1945-2011)]

Jim-

Here's my transcription which I neglected to post years ago which is probably a more accurate transcription of what they were singing, or not:

ARMSTRONG TOURIST REST HOME

(By Alan Fraser © BMI as sung by Alan Fraser and Daisy DeBolt on FRASER & DEBOLT, Columbia 30381, circa 1970)

The reason I get so upset when you talk disassuredly
Is where on earth is it leading?
The cowboys have trouble with reading,
The mistletoe is leaving your head on my shoulder,
My, my, my.

Your love for me, is an overnight sensation;
My love for you, is an overnight sensation too!

Constance, what a name, you should have said Felicity,
How did you hear I was hungry?
That's nonsense, Marie, and you know it,
The liquor has made you a little bit bolder,
My, my, my.

Your love for me, is an overnight sensation;
My love for you, is an overnight sensation too!

Now that the whole thing is over,
Heaven knows what I'll do;
I might try to get back to the clover,
Or I might stay and play for you.

Incense, velvet, simplicity, religion,
Where on earth are you going?
The cowboys are sprinkling mycelium;
The mushrooms keep growing in every new boot print,
My, my, my.

Your love for me, is an overnight sensation;
My love for you, is an overnight sensation too!

I'd still love to have the chords to this song.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

Charley: You didn't neglect to post it. You posted it to a different thread. See here: Lyr Add: /Chrd REQ-Armstrong Tourist Rest Home.

I even posted to that thread myself and then forgot about it. C'est la vie.
