I'm putting together a song book for camp staff and this is one of the catagories we want to include. It's been my hardest so far. So far I've got...

Hello, Hello (round)
Open the door(chorus Judy Collin's Song for Judith)
You and Me ( camp song)
Vive l'Amour

Any suggestions for ways to sing Howdy???

I did check the DT, but most of the welcomes are for lovers or aren't quiet what the camp director had in mind. Forum search is almost impossible given the number of hardy welcomes 'catters regularly extend...:~>

There's a sort of country song that the chorus goes something like;

I do this one with younger children in my singing games workshop

I sit all the children in a circle, I start and sing this to the person next to me, when I have finished, me ans the person next to me sing it to the person next to them and so on round the circle. It's a good ice breaker.

There is a song I've used occasionally as an opener. It's called "How do you". I don't recall who wrote it, but I do remember that Bob Gibson used to open with it. I don't know yet how to arrange the words on the screen but the first verse goes like this:

How do you, how do you,
How's your sister how's your brother, how are you,
Oh you make me feel so good, you cheer up my neighborhood,
As we shake it up and down with a how do you do.

You didn't say what age group, but there are several on this page. Just scroll down to the table and click on Welcome. There are also quite a few Scout songs that could be adapted to some other kind of camp here.

The age group is very wide. Camp ranges from 7 to 16 so music has to cover alot of bases. I had forgotten about "name" songs. Another good one in that catagory is 'Sha na na na". It even works with older kids .

Boy, I should NEVER try to post at four in the morning. I screwed up with my previous posting of "How do you too." I remember now that it was written by Woody (Sorry Woody). And I also remember that I learned this song from the singing of Rolf Cahn (Kahn?) in the San Francisco bay area in 1959. Also, the song I should have remembered that Bob Gibson used to open with was:

Anybody remember the song Andy Stewart used to sing at the start of "The White Heather Club" each week? Fairly banal as I recall. The first two lines , if I remember correctly, were

Just came in on this thread as i was trying to get words for Judy Collins' "Song for judith" - a real feel-good song which I've just discovered on her "best of" CD.
Then I saw Quincey's posting: "It's good to see you" was written by Allan Taylor, and is a great opening song for any gig.

Dear Murray, thank you for mentioning 'Come in, Come in' and 'Andy
Stuart' who wrote and first recorded it in 1959 for the 'White Heather Club'. When I played gigs for the old folks' homes from 2001 with my old school friend to when he left last year I played it, and when my mate was there we always started every show we did but he would sing it and I accompanied on the accordian but, when he left this song is still played to this day. thank you Murray from Joe.
