Yo! Any 'cats' in Austin? . . .

Vacation time looms close and I'm driving (!?) from Brantford, Ontario to Austin, Tx. for to visit some dear friends. I'll be there while the South X Southwest Conference is on (what a sweet coincidence). Hopefully I'll be there by the 12th and gotta leave 'bout the 28th for an April 1 gig back here. Be there any catters down that way? It'd be great to meet (the logistics be willin'). If you'd like to reply privately, my email be jeremiah-mccaw@home.com.

Looks like all the mudcatters in Austin are out being amorous with their armadillos. Perhaps we need a refresh to keep your thread from dropping off the bottom.

My grandfather once had an Austin, maybe an A58 model. My grandparents were a two-car family then even though my grandmother didn't drive. My grandfather needed a spare car because he always kept one ripped apart.

He Varathaned the Austin with a paint roller. The sun made the Varathane blister and crack. Looked like Hell.

My grandmother used to say that my grandfather would tear down a wall to get a nail to fix the car.

Enjoy your visit there. It should be nice for the springtime. I'm envious, being originally from there and now in Calgary. Some of my family is there, including my oldest boy. I haven't heard if he's going any of the SXSW gigs.

'Course last time I was there in the spring, a wicked storm came through and knocked out the power and took the roof off an HEB grocery store, so maybe I shouldn't get quite that nostalgic. Not too many hurricanes and tornadoes out here.

I'll be there on the 14th, maybe overnight. I will be attending a record distribution seminar on Wed and haven't looked at the schedule yet. Maybe we can hook up for a coffee or a bit of music. I'll get out my scheduel and send you an Email.

'Twould be cool, Jed. I'm driving down & should be there by the 12th. And I'll have the acoustic bass guitar along as well. Sounds like an attempt at connecting should be made.

Well, Flattop I don't remember the A58. But grey deck enamel applied with a roller is my first choice. It soaks right through dirt & grease, so washing the car first is optional. Chip

I'm visiting a friend up north right now, but I'll be back down in Texas soon. When is SXSW? If you've got some time one weekend, you should head up to Smithville and go to the Excalibur Fantasy Faire (small but nice). Drop me a line if you'd like to meet up or drive over together.

BEK - sorry to miss you. One of these days, I'm sure we'll catch up, and thanks very kindly for getting my CD!

Jeremiah and I did meet up Wed night in Austin. We stopped by at a pretty good Mexican Cafe for a bite to eat, and a bit of a jam. It was great fun!

We swapped yarns, and talked music then compared instruments; I brought my reconfigured Martin Backpacker, and Jeremiah brought his beautiful custom made bass guitar. Sorry we couldn't connect with any other Mudcatters on this trip, but I'm sure we'll get a chance to do it again soon!

And darned well worth the whole trip it was, too. I would never have thought to break out instruments in the middle of a restaurant, but damn! it was fun. Jed's instrument is fascinating. Try to imagine a sound somewhere between that of a lap dulcimer and an octave mandolin with single strings instead of doubles. Very decent. I do hope we have a chance to meet again and do the jam thing.

I'm gatting a CD player put in my car before the trip back home, and being able to listen to Jed's CD (thank you, kind & generous sir) is part of the reason. (Long term sanity on the long drive is another part.)

Ed Miller is an absolute treat! I wish I could be there, but we're busy in Dallas. We played with Ed at NTIF and at a festival in Cleburn last week. Great guy, great performer.

Damn! Spent all of St Paddy's day in Luchenbach. I'd love to see Ed again; I think it's been about 4 years the last time I saw him live.

Headin' back? a week this coming Wednesday, I think. Gotta be back on the Friday for rehearsal for an opening set for a April 1 concert.

I'm not sure I'd want to play an opening on April 1st. Sounds risky!!

Looks like you missed Ed. I just checked his website and it appears he booked out of town the whole time before you leave. I guess you'll jsut hafta come back!
