07 Mar 01 - 07:31 PM (#413044) Subject: RE: Noteworthy from/to ABC conversion From: Joe Offer Well, Dave, I swear by Noteworthy. It's stable and easy to use, and the sheet music it prints out is very nice. I squabble with John in Brisbane and others who insist on using MIDI with embedded lyrics, but nobody has actually come up with a standard for embedded-lyrics MIDI. Until that happens, I'll use Noteworthy. My $40 registration has carried me through many upgrades. It used to be that you could do a lot with the unregistered version forever, but I understand there's a time limit on the unregistered version now. You can download Noteworthy here (click). -Joe Offer- |

15 Mar 01 - 09:53 PM (#418742) Subject: RE: Noteworthy from/to ABC conversion From: GUEST,Bruce O. ABC is in for a change. Click below for the proposed new standard posted several hours ago. The committee didn't go for my reform, so K:spec still works 7 ways, while my J:spec is unique and uses only information in the score, and is independent of the coder's interpretation of the tune. {Chris Walshaw turned developement of ABC notation over to a committee. Note: new notation will have no effect whatever on what you get from your computer's speaker. Current ABC has taken that to it's limit.)

16 Mar 01 - 11:08 AM (#419066) Subject: RE: Noteworthy from/to ABC conversion From: Malcolm Douglas Jon Freeman and I both use old versions of Cakewalk; in my case it was a free one included with a magazine that the publisher sent me by accident, and is the only direct midi-writer that I've ever used, so I'm not a very good person to make an informed recommendation. Having said that, it's good enough, though complicated gracenotes can be a pain to fit in. Since it was a giveaway, I see no reason why I shouldn't send you a copy if you'd like to try it out: it's small enough to email as a zipped file. Malcolm |

16 Mar 01 - 11:33 AM (#419092) Subject: RE: Noteworthy from/to ABC conversion From: GUEST,Bruce O. Many thanks, Malcolm. But hold off sending. I think I may be able to pick it up free or cheap locally. My next door neighbor, organist, teacher and composer just got into computers and Noteworthy Composer, and has friends that have offered lots of other software, and he owes me a few favors for getting him going in computers. |
