Hello Seattle 'Cats

My cousin recently moved to Seattle. Although he is busy with the usual - new job, young kids, etc. - I am sure he would enjoy the folk scene, especially Irish Traditional. He's into fiddle, banjo, voice, tales, poetry, whatever.

I have sent him excerpts of posts to the Mudcat re venues, retail, etc, in Seattle, but I'm sure there are many people, places and ideas you could clue him into.

If you have any info on the Seattle scene you would like to share with this young gentleman, post them here. I am sure he will join the Mudcat as soon as he reads a few threads.

Thanks in advance.

It's a great folkscene here. Check out Seattle Folklore Society and Victory Music - both have monthly newsletters with calendars of events. The Seattle Folklore Society has a weekly Song Circle (check their web page). I host a monthly (1st Thurs) Trad Music Jam (British Isles & Northern Lands)- combined instrumental & singing - at Wit's End Bookstore. Wit's End also has a weekly open mic (every Wed) and other folk music jams. Dusty Strings folk music store in the Fremont neighborhood is a great resource for folk music. For trad Irish sessions, check out Conor Byrne's Pub in Ballard. And there's much more.

Cheers, S. in Seattle

Thanks for the info. I'll bechecking out Dusty Strings to get my Fiddle Bow restrung soon. Connor Byrne's is an excellent spot and I've already had the pleasure of seeing an uilliean piper and fiddler a month ago and missed Tommy Peoples last Sunday due to a Sold out show.

He may be back soon.I hope. Also on Tues or Wed or Thurs there's a session...... or there was a session at the Irish Immigrant in the U district.
