15 Mar 01 - 03:04 PM (#418389) Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: The Irish Volunteer From: harpmolly It's also on a great CD my dad sent me called "The Irish Volunteer," by David Kincaid. I love the song, although I confess one line does grate on me: "I was born among old Erin's bogs when I was but a child." Grrrr. I know it's anal of me, but writing a redundancy into a line just to serve the rhyme is a pet peeve of mine. Other than that, though, I love it! :) M |

16 Mar 01 - 02:19 PM (#419267) Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: The Irish Volunteer From: Irish sergeant Thanks all: I tried printing the lyrics from the one site for the Irish Volunteer and was unable to. I don't know if they're looking for filthy lucre or what but the hunt continues. Is Kicaid's CD on the open market? Kindest reguards, Neil |

28 Mar 01 - 08:24 PM (#428005) Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: The Irish Volunteer From: Liam's Brother Hi Mollificent and others! Two things about "The Irish Volunteer." First, the line, "I was born among old Erin's bogs when I was but a child" is a joke. Second, I was having a conversation with Mick Moloney a few months back and he did a fast calculation. If the line, "My father died in '98 for Liberty" was true, then the fictional Tim McDonald would've been a minimum of 63 years old at the outbreak of the Civil War... not prime material for the "good ould 69th."
All the best, |
