BS: Mir Re-Entry:Would you pay to see it?

Subject: Mir Re-Entry:Worth Paying to See?
From: Justa Picker

Just got finished reading the most ridiculous article about a company profitting from Mir's scheduled re-entry and burn-up. The suckers and I do mean suckers are each paying $6,500.00 a pop for a birdseye view of Mir's re-entry, observed from a plane, and as well as few day's stay on Fiji, and some partying. The Russian Government advises against tourists in this area since they went to considerable lengths to provide a re-entry area where the debris could fall without danger to person or property.

(Is there a full moon tonight?)

Do we all remember the episode of Northern Exposure where the Grant Goodeve characteer has the satellite land on him and he fuses with it. They have to "modify" the casket...............May these fools have such an experience. An interesting sight perhaps, but get me the hell out of the way! I don't stand on seawalls watching tidal waves either.

I knew personally a woman whose hobby was going to total eclipses of the sun...all over the world...and hoping for good weather. At least the sun wasn't heading right for you!

Yer damn right I'd go!!! It's the end of the most successful leg of space exploration to date!! And it's gonna be a hell of a cool light show!

It's really to bad that Mir has to come down... she was a hell of a good ship...

The hell with paying to SEE Mir re-enter. How much would you pay to have someone ride it in? And who would it be? Besides the obvious, of course...

George W. Bush? With a big 10-gallon hat and spurs that go jingle jangle?

Matt, that's the obvious! Myself, I'd like to see the Madison Avenue weenies who think I'll buy their products if they yell at me loud enough.

That ten-gallon hat they used in Dr Strangelove when the cowboy rode the bomb out of the bays is probably still available. Betcha G Dubya would just jump at the chance, so to speak, to show he was "down on communism"!!

What's a Mir? I thought it was one of those things some people look in all the time to see how they look.

No need to go. Knowing our luck "Down Under" It'll most probably land in our backyard!

Ever see Ed & Joe (fellow Philly boys) from Furniture To Go, when they did a skit of "Dr.Strangeloveseat"? At the end, they wave their cowboy hats as they ride the newly apholstered loveseat through the atmosphere...

I would love to see it fall, but not from a PLANE in the area, there will be flaming debris everywhere! And I'm not sure I'd like to be in a boat, or on the ground under... I'm hoping CNN will send helicopters, though! I'd like to watch it on TV and feel safe, being thousands of miles from the Pacific... but yes, if I were in Oz now, I'd be nervous, didn't they reap the benefits of Skylab?

Lots of people turned up to watch a building being demolished a couple of years ago in Canberra, Oz. The debris was scattering over huge distances, right into the crowd who were watching from across the lake. One young teenage girl was killed and the company just finished the court case and was told it was liable for a huge payout for negligence and damages.

Not good business practice to advertise to get people to stand around in dangerous places.

And yes, Mrrzy, we got bits of Skylab - luckily out in relatively uninhabited desert places - but the international NIMBY's seem to think that the southern hemisphere is fair game.

The southern hemisphere IS fair game... it's a tonne more sparsely populated than the northern...

Yes, true Clinton, which makes it a probability game, but any casualty, even one, is a disaster, especially for the casualty her/himself. And the ones calculating the probabilities are out of the equations themselves simply by being in the northern hemisphere.

If the Earth was going to fall into the sun, they'd probably be selling front row seats 6 months ahead for that too...at an astronomical price.

In Orillia there was an article recently about teenagers who are getting their kicks by repeatedly choking themselves/their friends unconscious. As many as 50 times a day, apparently.

I figure if you marketed a "kick in the ass" vigorously enough, you could get people to line up for blocks waiting to get theirs.

Anything is possible.

That's why casinos do so well.

Taco Bell is offering a free taco to everyone in the United States if the core of the Mir space station hits a floating Taco Bell target placed in the South Pacific. Click here
