16 Mar 01 - 01:53 PM (#419239) Subject: I couldn't sleep one night From: Jim Krause I couldn't sleep one night, and so got up with a confused combination of two songs going through my head. The tune was Goin' Around This World Baby Mine an old-time standard that the Coon Creek Girls recorded, I think. Funny thing was, I started singing: What did Delaware, baby mine? What did Tennessee, baby mine (3X) What did Idaho, baby mine? (3X) What does Ioway, baby mine? (3X) Hawaii today, baby mine? (3X) And so on. It being near 2 AM by now, the verses got a little risque with I'll leave that one up to your imaginations! The point? What's the real origin of these jokes? Seems I heard an old Woody Guthrie record with some of them on it, especially the What did Delaware verse. Anybody else remember this novelty song? It had a different tune, I'm sure. |

What did Delaware, boy, what did Delaware,
What did Missisip, boy, what did Missisip, |
