Help!!! Does anyone out there know the lyrics for a song entitled (I think), "name a Spot of Heaven Louisiana"? The first couple of lines in the chorus are: "So name a spot in heaven Louisiana Place my namesake just inside the door...." Do you know it? Thanks, Tom

Would it be the one on this page? Name a spot in Heaven Louisiana.

The midi clip goes something like...

Years ago I left my home in Louisiana
With things of fame and fortune on my mind
How was I to know that things were nothing
to compare with what I'd left behind.

best wishes, Yvonne

If it's the right song Tom, then it's sung by this band... CLEAR CREEK BLUEGRASS BAND

You can download an mp3 file of the Sullivan Family singing NAME A SPOT IN HEAVEN LOUISIANA live at the Old-Time Country Music Contest and Festival in Missouri Valley, Iowa, from this page. Here's my transcription:

NAME A SPOT IN HEAVEN LOUISIANA
Margie Sullivan

Years ago I left Louisiana
With dreams of fame and fortune on my mind.
How was I to know that there was nothing
To compare with what I left behind?

CHORUS:
So name a spot in heaven 'Louisiana'
And place my mansion just inside the door.
Let the cool winds blow through cotton and magnolia.
Let me hear that Cajun music just once more.

It's harsh to know I took so much for granted,
Too young to know the changes time can bring.
I left behind the ones who really loved me
To search for wealth and happiness in vain.
CHORUS

Now in my dreams I'm back in Louisiana,
Back on that old farm where I was born.
Though time has changed the places and the faces,
Still there's just no place on earth like home.
CHORUS

Note from Joe Offer (7 Jan 2011): BMI says songwriters were Jimmie H. Davis and Margie B. Sullivan
