BS: saved by the 'Cat again

Went to bed depressed from tiftin' with Wife, woke up worse as I have to fire a couple people{whom I like} as thieves today. Opened the Ian and Slyvia thread to see what was new, read Joe's response, went to the Slyvia bio, from there to folk classics, to Eric Anderson, and tripped over "Thirsty Boots". Damn, I'd forgotten that one, how many more? Typed title into DT search and got the lyrics. From the forum, a refresher on the chords, got out the Martin, and found my fingers finding the bass lines like I'd never played them before, and transposed to G, my voice fit in well. What a wonderfull if somewhat dated song. Anyway, though my life isn't any better, my mood sure is. Can't wait to surprise my best friend with this song that he introduced me to 35 years or so ago. Thanks to all my Mudcat brothers and sisters for putting a whole lot brighter sheen on this day. Mike{lookin' for the evening}

Mike: "Anyway, though my life isn't any better, my mood sure is. " Yeah, The MC has that affect on me quite a lot of the time. Your note gave me some lyrics. Thanks! Wish I had time to make it into a real song. Maybe later...

Lookin for the evenin'
wishin it was here
ain't much of a day
wish this rain in my heart would clear

Lookin for the evening
a real bad day I fear
wanna put the day away
So this rain in my heart can clear

My condolences, mkebenn, I hate having to fire people, especially someone I like. Reminds me of having to fail really nice students who didn't do any of the work or learn anything... and yes, sometimes the 'cat does do wonders for my attitude, while leaving all that led to such an attitude unchanged. That is the kernel of mental health - your life can suck, but you don't have to be miserable about it!

The cat has helped me to laugh on countless occasions....and the obvious caring folks here have for one another has always helped a great deal...

The cat has helped keep me sane (well almost) in a year when I have had to close two businesses and fire ten friends, including my own daughter. It has also made me realise that there is more to life than grubbing for money - music, for example, and helping people out.

Just wish I could get to meet more of my Mudcat contacts for real. I've met a few UK 'catters (Liz the Squeak, Morticia, Gervase and Micca, for example), and Dick and Susan of the DT when they were over here last year.

I shall always be grateful to Kevin (aka McGrath of Harlow) who introduced me to the site in the first place.

Notice he didn't say meeting us had helped at all?

At the end of last years Durham Summer School an American lady, who I did not think knew, gave me a piece of paper on which was written Mudcat.org. Thank You!!

If you are reading this please PM me. John

No, no, no! The 'cat is not supposed to keep one SANE, it is supposed to drive one to insanity - or some other equivalent of tiple-playing... or do I mean tipling? Wait! That's tippling, isn't it? Ummm...

I'm not suffering from insanity - I quite enjoy it!

Thanks all for your empathy, as always. Today seems much better. In fact, hoping to go see a folk singer I haven't seen in thirty years, excepting once 'bout fifteen years ago when I was semi alive. I was happily playing Simon and Gorefinkle songs when I met him, and HE introduced me to Billy Ed Wheeler, Richard Thompson, Ian Tyson, and Buffy. I've never been the same. Should I thank him?LOL Mike
