27 Mar 01 - 12:21 PM (#426619) Subject: WyoWoman says 'Hello, Strangers!' From: WyoWoman Greetings, Mudcatteers, Music Friends and Various Hangers On, Just wanted to let you all know I'm alive and well and back in Colorado, at least for the time being. My mother is greatly on the mend, after having had a couple of strokes and a major seizure in reaction to some of the drugs she was being given. I stayed with her for three weeks, and thought I would be moving there permanently. However, she's pretty much back to her own little ol' self now and doesn't much care for all the fuss. So I'm back here in Colorado, trying to sort myself out and to decide where to go from here. I've been sick with the flu for several weeks as well and feel as though I've been living in a box of cotton. My voice disappeared more than a week ago and has yet to reappear. I sound like ... well, nothing much at all. I've started writing SONGS!!!! I'm so amazed. I've actually had four or five songs come into my mind lately and they don't completely suck. I have trouble with the melody part, but the lyrics are coming fast and furiously. I've ordered a keyboard in the hope it will make it easier for me to compose the music. I have the Band-in-a-Box program but am finding it confusing to use. I wish, how I wish, I could play guitar, but I seem stuck in gross amateurishness. I have a new squeeze. So remember that part where I said I'd rather eat a bowl of hair than ever fall in love again? I might want to take that back a little bit ... Still looking for work, now that the dot.commies for whom I was writing/editing have mostly gone belly up, or are only hiring staff writers/editors. So if you know of anything ... Freelance Writer Will Work for Money. It's good to be back. Sorry I stayed away, but life has this habit of just happening. Love and rockets, WyoWoman |

I'm VERY happy to hear that your mom is doing well. I'm hoping that your new honey understands what a treasure you really are - something we here have known for quite some time. My best to both of you. Begin free association now: (Am I the only one who is reminded of a certain character on the editorial pages of Boys Life Magazine whenever I see WW? Of course that other character was more like UU.) End free association now. I think I need another cup of coffee... |

27 Mar 01 - 01:05 PM (#426664) Subject: RE: WyoWoman says 'Hello, Strangers!' From: WyoWoman Wow! what a speedy response. Thank you all hugely. I've missed my fantasy friends (sounds like very bad 900-number stuff, doesn't it? Of course, a LOT of Mudcat sounds like that ... ) Yves, I've been around on the 'Cat for a couple of years ... maybe three, now that I think of it. My photos are on the photo page, and I just keep getting better lookin'. ;-> But I've sort of been in remission lately with family business, illness and an insane schedule. I sing and plunk around meaninglessly on guitar, occasionally learning a new chord that gives me hope, but instantly slipping back into the mire of non-playerdom. I exist mostly to keep Catspaw in line, to tease Chanteyranger and to make the rest of the kids play nice. Yes, Mario, fine that you shared the tape. Share away. And MusicMan, I am SO sorry I didn't get to come up there. I was running a high fever the entire weekend, so you're really lucky I didn't do the Typhoid Mary thaing and come share myself with you. One of these days, though, I will absolutely make it to Vancouver and we will make bee-yoo-tee-ful music together. With John the Squeeze carefully watching from the second row, of course. xo/ww-who-is-touched-moved-and-inspired-by-your-responses |

I'm very happy to hear that your mom is back to herself and that you were able to help her get there. I'm just as happy to hear about your song-writing, because your wonderful voice and your vision of things means you'll be creating cool stuff. And don't fret about the guitar playing. If you just keep playing (and listening to guitar music that you like)you won't be able to avoid getting better (says she who's been playing for twenty years and still can't manage to keep a pick in her hand). Best of luck with all your transitions. Margaret |

27 Mar 01 - 07:05 PM (#426993) Subject: RE: WyoWoman says 'Hello, Strangers!' From: wysiwyg No Spaw, it isn't Lent that is the trouble, it's the parish business that must be transacted even though it is Lent, which makes two fulltime jobs (parish admin and priestly duties) into nearly three fulltime jobs (add the extra Lenten season services throughout the week). What I have asked him to consider for the coming years is letting the committees know they will have to suspend business during Lent so Lent can be... LENT. Our Lent, BTW, is not miserable, but actually just a time for extra intense focus on our relationship with Jesus. A time when we get to look at whether we spend enough time with Him, or spend it, for example, listening rather than demanding. What we give up for Lent is... CRAP. (The crap that piles up all year in the way of what we mean our lives to be.) Spaw, by that definition, I suspect you must be living in a somewhat permanent Lentlike state. *G* (I took your "shot" in good humor, and hope you take mine the same way.) *G* ~S~ |

27 Mar 01 - 09:28 PM (#427097) Subject: RE: WyoWoman says 'Hello, Strangers!' From: Alice Hi, KC, I haven't been hanging around the mudcat corral much lately myself... I recently started working about 25 hours a week for a local printer, whom I have known as a mandolin player in our session. He needed help, and I needed work, so I'm not all freelance any more. Maybe you can find a newspaper in Colo. that is in need of your wit and charm? Keep singing, angel (when your voice comes back). Alice in Montana

28 Mar 01 - 12:04 AM (#427227) Subject: RE: WyoWoman says 'Hello, Strangers!' From: WyoWoman Welp, I'm sitting here having a Jameson's toddy and my voice is feeling better already. Thanks for the good wishes, all. Actually, Mark, that song was exactly what I had in mind when I wrote the thread title -- and I'd been meaning for a long time to get the words somewhere. I have that one on Emmylou's "Angel Band" cd -- or maybe another of hers, now that I think of it. Anyway, happy to have the words in my files. And yes, Camisu, definitely come see me when you come this way. Micca, I'll let you know my travel plans and for sure will take you up on your offer. I'm definitely planning on going to Greece in October and don't know if I can swing a trip to the UK as well, but I'm aiming in that direction. (Going to Greece to help friends with their olive harvest on Crete. Does that sound too cool, or what? Anyone know any olive smashing songs?) re. the songwriting: should I be concerned if lyrics are all i'm 'getting' right now? As much as I've sung, you'd think melodies would be tripping all over eachother up there in my head ... ww |
