Anyone out there from NYC or northern Burbs or northern Jersey. I am looking for other artists and Venues that support the kind of music discussed here, Traditional blues, folk, Bluegrass, ect.... the good stuff. Just discovered this place , it is a nice place to pass the down time at work.

Check out any references to Sorcha Dorcha my band. We are a traditional Celtic band based in NYC. At present I am in Wiltshire England, hence the guest tag... but will be back soon. For those who know The Popular Halfwit, check the post I am about to make, he needs your thoughts and prayers over here. All the best, Larry

Get yourself a copy of the monthly newsletter of the New York Pinewoods Folk Music Club. In addition to listing club-sponsored events, it carries a calendar of almost all folk and folk-related events in the New York metro area (including Long Island, Westchester, New Jersey, and Connecticut). It also carries the locations of clubs, coffee houses, regular sessions, festivals, other folk music societies, etc.

You can request a free sample copy of the current newsletter by contacting the Pinewoods membership chairperson, Anne Price. E-mail: Aeprice@aol.com

Or else CLICK HERE!

If you prefer postal mail:

If you like what you see, then please join. Your membership not only gets you the monthly newsletter, it also gives you six top-rated folk concerts every year absolutely free. (The general public admission would be $13 each.) You also get discounts on many other Pinewoods events, such as our upcoming folk music weekend, May 25-28, 2001.

and don't forget about NY Pinewoods member discounts to our Folk Off Broadway series and house concerts! These concerts promote sometimes well known musicians just "passing through" the area for one night or some lesser known fine performers in an intimate setting!! Yes, up close and personal. Like the April 6 Folk off Broadway concert of The NexTradition -- deep roots, dangerous harmonies. that on is at Brooklyn Polytechnic University (college?) at 8pm.

also the club sponsors all kinds of get-togethers on a regular basis -open mikes, sacred harp and gospel, old timey, etc. just check out the newsletter for details.

you can also check out the club's website at

www.folkmusicny.org

or Click here for NY Pinewoods website

hope we see you at some gatherings, introduce yourself -- for concerts I'm usually at the gate -- other events I'm all over --

The Garden State Sacred Harp Convention is also coming up, May 18-20 in Montclair. The singing on Sunday, May 20 is actually right in Manhattan, at St. Barts. Friday night some of the English Sacred Harp singers will be bringing us some of thier related "West Gallery" music. This is always a very fine and friendly convention.

You can go HERE for more information.
