Long time Toronto Jazz Stalwart Moe Koffman passed away yesterday. I was introduced to his music by my father and enjoyed it. R.I.P. Moe

Stalwart is right. I used to go and hear him at George's Spaghetti House. I confess that for some reason I never really got into his sound -- jazz flute and I just don't hit it off -- but he was a class act in a town without much class.

yours, Peter T.

Nice man. Never got very much "jazz press" outta Toronto 'cause he was pretty respectable, earned a lot of money, and put taking care of his family high on his priority list, but the MUSICIANS knew. He'll be missed.

If my memory serves me well , he had a big hit with "Swingin' Shepherd Blues" back in the 50's. It was a nice track with a cool feel to it.I never heard of him since until today but it's good to know that he carried on in the business and earned respect R.I.P.

Yeah, that's one of his best. He was a member of the Boss Brass for a while, too. They RULE!!!

He also played saxes sometimes, usually alto or soprano.

RIP, Moe.

Actually I'm looking for any CDs by the Boss Brass, if you have one, PM me. The one with "Porgy and Bess Suite" on it preferably...

A nice letter about Moe in this morning's Globe and Mail by Garnet Rodgers, describing how Moe helped him as a young musician.

yours, Peter T.
