BS: Give up?

ever get so frustrated with your playing/singing/etc. that you've contemplated giving it up once and for all?

I have, but I just can't help but keep on playin' good or awful...

Sometimes, but after a break I'm usually able to try again. The fallow time is useful, too.

Sure! I get in a rut & nothing I play seems good or fresh. That's a good time to go listen to someone else play. Gives me new inspiration & new desire. I can't lay the banjo down for long. It starts calling me from the corner of the room...kinda' like hearing voices only they don't make drugs for it. Do you play more than one instrument? If so, try picking up the other for a while. I do that with autoharp & it helps to change the musical scenery.

Keep picking,

Chip

No but I do have those practice sessions where nothing sounds right and I can't seem to do anything to suit myself. It's downright aggravating.

Thar was bloooood on the capo!
Thar was blooood on my rings
And drops of blood drying
On mah silk-on-steel strings
Ah found "Strawberry Roan"
Lying in the gore
An' I won't be performin'
Thet song any more!

Serial Tune Killer Blues....

LOL Amos!! That's exactly what it feels like!! I finally learned a Leadbelly blues lick to accompany my kids, but every time I tried it, it just got worse and worse. But today was the day the kids were to perform their own 12-bar blues songs, and I had to accompany- I took no prisoners, I left my performance dead and bloody on the ground. But the kids didn't seem to notice- they were too full of their cleverness ("I got the music class blues, I just don't wanna sing, I got the music class blues, I just don't wanna sing- I don't wanna dance, I don't wanna do anything!")

Amos... Serial Tune Killer Blues... excellent. I looked for the lyrics in the Digitrad so I could send it to my buddy in Iqaluit, a picker and singer of fine tunes, but to no avail. May I impose upon your kind favour to direct me ?

No, man, although sometimes I play more in my head than in my hands. It's a comfort.

People keep trying to get me to give up but as my grandpappy used to say - "Never giv 'em what they wants."

There have been several occasions where I have seriously considered quitting the writing.....but I think that would have been impossible.....for it could have very well killed me.....or at least I would have lost part of my soul....

No, but I have "walked away" from it out of ennui for long periods of time.

I don't think I could stop singing, even if I tried. Apparently for 50% of my singing time, I'm not even aware that I am singing!
