08 Nov 97 - 11:42 PM (#16003) Subject: Lyrics: Hello Central Give Me Heaven From: Clairify My mother and aunt sang us this song over 50 years ago. We would cry, and then ask them to sing it again! I've never heard it anywhere else. Hello Central give me Heaven For my mother's there. She is strolling with the angels On the golden Stair. I'm sure there are other verses but I can't recall them. |

09 Nov 97 - 10:43 PM (#16028) Subject: RE: Lyrics: Hello Central Give Me Heaven From: Clairify Thanks Gene, I'm so impressed with the information I get here. Maybe you missed my other request for lyrics. I think it is a World War II song. The fragment I remember is: ... and a carpet of corn for the floor. And I heard a voice within me whisper This is worth fighting for. Thanks again for "Hello Central". |

18 Mar 99 - 04:28 PM (#64071) Subject: Hello Central, give me heaven From: Megan Hawken My mother is terminally ill and is planning her own funeral. She has requested three unusual songs. The first is "Hello Central, give me heaven". The second is a spirtual called, "Goin' Home" and the third is a song with the words "shuffle off to Buffalo" somewhere in it. I don't know if it is in the title. I know this isn't much to go on and I know that these are probably not considered folk songs, but I'm having a heck of a time finding anything on the internet. If someone could just give me an idea as to where to look for these songs I would appreciate it. Thanks. |

18 Mar 99 - 04:51 PM (#64075) Subject: RE: Hello Central, give me heaven From: Ross I think "Shuffle off to Buffalo " is the title. I believe I tap danced to that about 40 years ago, but any words I did know, I don't now. Sounds like it's going to be a pretty upbeat funeral. She must be a neat lady. |
