Here's another verse to this song (which may not need another last verse), from one of my Rivendell Co-op housemates in Michigan; we used to joke about someday we'd all be sitting around gray-haired, and this verse would catch up with us. Rediculous!

The years went by, and time's now left us;

With this simple song, in the same old way.

AW! I love it.

But I dunno if we can add this when we sing it, which we often do. See, my sister has been joking with her friends for years about the time when they all wind up together in a "home" with blue-dyed hair.... how they will be just the same as they are now, only finally looking as crotchety as they have always been... and if I rearrange a couple of those lines accidetnally, the blue hair is a possible rhyme...

Hate to get mixed up, or let Hardi have his way with that line! Worse, he'd probably add a funeral verse. Maybe I better, before he does.

A banjo-playing friend of mine here in Pittsburgh swears the worst act we've EVER had in our concert series is June Tabor, because she sang Les Barker's parody version. Steve had been subjected to an unmerciful barrage of banjo jokes for a good while leading up to it and she pushed him over the edge. I thought it was the highlight of her set ;-)
