Lyr Add: Roseville Fair-New Verse

Here's another verse to this song (which may not need another last verse), from one of my Rivendell Co-op housemates in Michigan; we used to joke about someday we'd all be sitting around gray-haired, and this verse would catch up with us. Rediculous!

The years went by, and time's now left us;
Your face is lined, and your hair is gray;
But I'll tell you again, how much I love you,
With this simple song, in the same old way.

Thanks, Bill Staines, for the original song.

And I think Bill would like it, too, R&G.

But you're wrong about One Meatball.

AW! I love it.

But I dunno if we can add this when we sing it, which we often do. See, my sister has been joking with her friends for years about the time when they all wind up together in a "home" with blue-dyed hair.... how they will be just the same as they are now, only finally looking as crotchety as they have always been... and if I rearrange a couple of those lines accidetnally, the blue hair is a possible rhyme...

Hate to get mixed up, or let Hardi have his way with that line! Worse, he'd probably add a funeral verse. Maybe I better, before he does.

From a husband
Oh you loved me well, and you loved me dearly,
As the years went by, and we lived our life.
Now you've gone ahead, to the dance floor in heaven,
Where I'll thank the Lord for my blessed wife.

Or, from a wife
Oh you loved me well, and you loved me dearly,
As the years went by, and we lived our life.
Now you've gone ahead, to the dance floor in heaven,
Where I'll thank the Lord I became your wife.

Next-to-last, before last refrain
And we'll dance away all eternity's ages
As the angel band lights the heavenly air.
Just like the night we will always remember,
We fell in love at the Roseville Fair.

Finish with refrain Yes we danced all night to the fiddle and the banjo...

Charlie, now we'll need that verse about raising the kids...

Thanks, Susan. Of course, I'm also learning the parody version to spring on my friends at the next open mike night. Just when they thought they were safe! ;-)

It's such a pretty melody and feels so good to sing it that I wish it had a million verses.

Well, Charlie, the next Mocha Cafe is this Saturday! You better have it ready by then.

Sing mine if you don't.

Sigh... wish I could be there.

Nae, come and get me.

A banjo-playing friend of mine here in Pittsburgh swears the worst act we've EVER had in our concert series is June Tabor, because she sang Les Barker's parody version. Steve had been subjected to an unmerciful barrage of banjo jokes for a good while leading up to it and she pushed him over the edge. I thought it was the highlight of her set ;-)
