As an Ex-Limey I want to remind you of that old statement (Can't remember who said it) "There's very little difference between Canadians and Americans." Victoria -- the city as a whole, not any particular person in it -- still dumps raw sewage into the Straits. Which was all I said. He took me to task for this; I think the obvious conclusion to be drawn is that he was claiming Victoria no longer shits into the Straits. She does. The fact that his shit doesn't go into the mix is neither here nor there. I don't really care if he isn't hooked up to the municipal sewer system; that's between him and the authorities. What I care about is the raw sewage being dumped into the water, which is still occurring. Obfuscation will not change that fact. Only sewage treatment will. Alex |

That would be like me, for the past year, when someone from Seattle is posting to the forum, insisting that residents of Washington State want the right to fart in my face because of Sumas 2 or nuclear power plants constructed in seismically unstable areas. Your blanket statement is rude and ignorant of local civic politics in this country.
Again I reiterate, I am not hooked up to the sewer system for that section or district of Victoria, nor any sewer outfall system for that matter. I have no more control over their policies than you do. I can engage in general protest, which we are both free to make, but like you, I do not pay taxes or elect public officials in that locality. As pointed out, 3/4's of what is termed the city of Victoria are not in that position either, so blanket statements do not apply to "Victoria" in general. I post regarding music, fun, good will and general expansion of knowledge, not as a opportunity to take pot shots and insult people in other countries but for this one exception???."people who live in glass houses??." |

However, as this is a public forum I believe I may direct my responses to posts whenever and to whomever I wish, including yours.
Pardon me if my statement that I do not shit in your water seemed misleading to you, I thought it perfectly clear. You can talk about sewerage outfalls all you wish Mousethief, but my suggestion is, again, that you direct your pent up hostilities and concern in writing to the goverment bodies and departments that are responsible for it, as I have over the years. It is probably more effective and certainly less insulting to your fellow Mudcatters.

"Since the 1995 shellfish downgrade Blaine has experienced numerous combined stormwater/ sewer overflows along Marine Drive. Storm water entering the sewer system overloads the Blaine Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), resulting in design capacity being exceeded.
Twelve times in January of 1997, the plant exceeded its 24-hour average design flow. In January of 1998, the frequency decreased to seven events of lesser magnitude. The 800,000 gallons per day (gpd) capacity of the STP is based on an average daily flow, and the plant is designed to handle one-hour peak flows of 2,400,000 gpd. Blaine?s DOE national pollution discharge elimination system permit uses averages of the recorded daily flows, this averaging rarely puts the STP out of compliance. There is concern about the performance of the facilities and possible impacts to the harbor during these high flow events.
These overflows, caused by excessive inflow and infiltration (I&I) of storm water into the sanitary sewer system, overwhelmed the system resulting in the discharge of untreated sewage into Semiahmoo Bay. This history of storm water I&I has caused exceedences in the average day design capacity of the Blaine STP. Current projects by the City of Blaine include collection system improvements in North Blaine to minimize the occurrence of Marine Drive sewer discharges into Semiahmoo Bay and Drayton Harbor."
