World Mudcat Day

April 31, 2001

I am pleased to join my fellow Americans in observing World Mudcat Day.

An educated and music-loving citizenry provides the foundation for a free and democratic society. Mudcat promotes the sharing of knowledge, connecting people of all ages with valuable information resources. This dynamic and modern institution, and the Mudcatters who contribute their wisdom, add immeasurably to our quality of life.

Mudcat serves as important center for collecting, storing, and organizing words of wisdom on that very important area, namely folk music. Each year, more than numerous posts are started from the United States alone, and the U.S. government should help foster this. Even beyond these numbers are incredible contributions from other nations.

In public, government, professional, or academic facilities, Max, and others, help individuals use numerous resources to complete the simplest or most complex of research-related tasks. This ability to search for information from the Digital Tradition or to read the latest opinions demonstrates the enduring versatility of Mudcat..

During this special observance, I commend Mudcat for its contributions to education and learning throughout our Nation. I also encourage all Americans to visit Mudcat. Laura and I send our best wishes to the staff, contributors, and patrons of Mudcat across America, and indeed the rest of the world, wherever that may be.

GEORGE W. BUSH

Now Dick is BOUND to get that grant. Someone with a good scanner and an old proclamation ought to be able to do this upas an attachment to his proposal. But the date should be real-- the day Mudcat was started. Maybe a clone will fix it!

Fellow Mudcatters,

I don't know what has happened but somehow I seem to have missed the Day (see my Proclamation at the top). I'll have to ask Cheney or Powell what happened to it.

Sincerely George W. Bush

Is this when we storm the record shops and throw copies of all Mudcatters' CDs (yes, Kendall and Larry, yours as well!) on to the shelves to cover up all the pap/pop?

A day for people with cheap analogue wristwatches and no memory for mnemonics. Could be Dubya, as you say.

How to mark it, though. I'll wait for inspiration.

We could lock arms in solidarity in village squares & malls all over America singing This Land Is Your Land.
