But what I like to know is whether there is a kind of programm which turns midis to abc or sheet music. Shareware or freeware preferred. Anyone knows something like that? Regards Sabine :o) |

Looking for program From: Shuffer I find that Noteworthy Composer does a great job of turning Midi files into those mysterious black dots that my wife insists she needs to play. Me I use a pair of ears :-) Noteworthy will import Midi files and convert them to sheet music and a previous thread alerted me to a program that will convert ABC to Noteworthy and I have found that this works very well. Noteworthy can be downloaded as a shareware program from www.noteworthycomposer.com Hope this helps Geoff |

It's not that I can't use my ears but I need to convert nearly hundreds of tunes and sometimes I am tooooooo lazy to do it all with abc ;-) Thanks again Sabine |

10 Apr 01 - 10:02 AM (#437301) Subject: RE: Midi to sheet music. Looking for program From: Snuffy If you find the ABC homepage from the Mudcat links, there's a freeware program called ABc2MIDI, (which also includes MIDI2ABC and ABC2ABC). These allow you to turn midis into abcs or vice versa, and to transpose abcs. |

Does all sorts of other nifty syuff, as well. Quite a robust shareware program for 15 U.S. dollars. Here's the URL: http://www.myriad-online.com/enindex.htm Bardford |

Looking for program From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca There was a program, can't remember the name of it, which was a freeware until late last year. It took MIDI files and printed them out. Really nicely too. I just can't think of the name. If you can do a Forum search, it was about 2 years ago, and there was a thread about MIDI file printing. |

11 Apr 01 - 12:36 AM (#437866) Subject: RE: Midi to sheet music. Looking for program From: GUEST,Uncle Jaque I'll second Barford's motion for the MYRIAD program. Mine is called "Melody Assistant". MYRIAD also offers a freeware reader, but I'm not sure if it does the MIDI conversion thing as does "Assistant". At any rate, you can download a limitied-feature trial version of "Melody" from that site an give it a whirl. I have had MA for a couple of years now; it's not perfect, but the price is right and they are constantly upgrading (free upgrades as long as you are registered for, gosh, life I guess). Support is really great via e-mail and user forum, considering that it's based out of France. Some users claim that it's comparable to music notation programs costing in the $200-$300 range. It's got a lot of bells & whistles that I don't have a clue how to use much less have any use for. |

11 Apr 01 - 01:01 AM (#437877) Subject: RE: Midi to sheet music. Looking for program From: GUEST,Bardford Sometimes my brain says one thing and my fingers type another. You are correct, Uncle Jaque, the program is indeed Melody Assistant, and its better-equipped cousin is Harmony Assistant. As I stated, it can handle ABC files. In my first post I was thinking midi, but typed abc. Sabine was inquiring about midi files, and I'm happy to report that it can load up those as well, convert to score, and print. Mac and PC versions. I sound like a sales guy, but I've no financial interest in the company. Cheers, Bardford |
