Hi, I've been looking for the chords to "Sometimes", recorded by Jonathan Edwards. I have the recording but I can't quite figure out the chords. Thanks.

Hi, Hip. I play "Sometimes" but I can't guarantee I play it "right," just right per my ear... I move from G, to Am7, to G with a B in the bass and an added D on the high B string, back down to Am7, back down to G, and so on. To play the Am7 I don't add the G on the high E string, I just leave the G string open. Is that at all helpful? I'll be glad to associate the chord changes with particular words if you like. Margaret (descriptively challenged...)

I watched a You Tube of Jonathan Edwards playing it. Seems like he may use a open G tuning, D G D G B D.

Seems close if you start with open G then onto Sixth and Fifth string fretted on the second fret and the 2nd string fretted on the 1st fret and then move up two frets and then back down etc etc ...............there may be more to it but maybe that will give you a new way of looking at it

He plays in open D (D-A-D-F#-A-D), capo on third fret.

Jonathan Edwards

Sometimes, in the morning
I catch a falling dream
Disappearing scene.
And I think about a someone
That I will never see again
And now it's only me again.

Sometimes, in the morning
I think I hear a phrase
Echo through the haze,
And it's just beyond my vision
It's something that she said one night
Before we went to bed one night.

Sometimes, in the morning
When I go back to sleep
Trying hard to keep,
All my memories in motion
Wishing she were here my love
Whispering in my ear, my love.

He does indeed do the song in an open E but tunes down to open D and capos on the 3rd fret putting the song in the key of F. Only 3 chords- F = 000000, Gm7 = 220100 and F(A bass) = 440300. The chord names are from his first album songbook entitled "Jonathan Edwards", Castle Hill Publishing, Ltd. 1972

Actually, I spoke with Jonathan Edwards last night (10/19/2012) after a show with Michael Martin Murphy in Jim Thorpe, PA, and he told directly me he does "Sometimes" in D-tuning.

Saw Jonathan Edwards at Rams Head Annapolis- Talked to him after the show - he plays several songs (including Sometimes) in open D tuning!

Loved this song and the album. Played it years ago but forgot the details about the open tuning, fingering etc. it's like reuniting with an old friend. Does anyone have a finger style for this song they can share?
