13 Apr 01 - 11:21 PM (#440224) Subject: Holy Saturday song circle, what to sing? From: Alice I have a fledgling song circle that I started last October. We meet at a tea and pastry room called Wellington's (owned by a very sweet English lady named Gill) and I scheduled the song circle on the second Saturday of each month. I thought that would be convenient, but now this month's circle meets tomorrow on Holy Saturday. The time is 3pm to 4:30pm. I have a feeling I may be the only one who shows up. Anyway, if you were to sing at a song circle on Holy Thursday, what would YOU sing? Would your choices be influenced by the day? Just curious. Alice |

14 Apr 01 - 12:18 PM (#440456) Subject: RE: Holy Saturday song circle, what to sing? From: Joe Offer Well, you could sing the traditional Holy Saturday chant, the Exultet. That would fill up almost your whole time, and then you could have tea and crumpets and go home. The Exultet is the marathon of Gregorian Chant. It can be beautiful, even when sung in English; but many of those who sing it aren't quite up to it. Our deacon slides off key by the time he gets to the part where we have to sing responses, and then people wonder why our responses are so weak. But since you probably won't do the Exultet, might I suggest "Julian of Norwich"? -Joe Offer- |

14 Apr 01 - 12:35 PM (#440470) Subject: RE: Holy Saturday song circle, what to sing? From: mousethief I always thought there should be a hymn "Pore God is Dayd" to the tune "Pore Jud is Dayd" from Oklahoma. Could be sung from Good Friday afternoon to Good Saturday at 11:59pm. Is that blasphemous? Oh, sorry. Wrong thread for that question. Alex |
