This is going to be a terrific program, and if you're an FSGW member, it's FREE. If you're not a member, you should consider joining at Margaret's concert.)
Margaret's repertoire is a real treasure -- mostly traditional tunes and songs from Vermont, her home state, and the rest of New England. She performs lots of songs from the Helen Hartness Flanders collection, which has been discussed here on the Mudcat. She plays an unusual harp-zither, a reproduction of a century-old instrument that she discovered in an old barn and which has become known as the "MacArthur Harp." She also plays guitar and mountain dulcimer. Her newest recording, "Them Stars," takes its title from a wonderful cowboy poem that Margaret discovered gathering dust in a Colorado archive and which she set to music. It's a gem! Kathy, Margaret told told me that date May 19 at WESin an email many months ago, and I'm hoping to finally get to meet her there. I first heard her at the old Red Fox Inn in Bethesda, somewhere around 1978.Margaret also pays close attention to the history of Vermont, and finds old songs relative to the state's history from lots of places besides folk song collections.
