23 Apr 01 - 02:38 PM (#447484) Subject: RE: Tune Req: Songs about Scottish Mist From: mousethief LL, is this a literal mist, as in fog, or a figurative mist, as in something I have no idea what you're talking about? Alex |

23 Apr 01 - 02:47 PM (#447495) Subject: RE: Tune Req: Songs about Scottish Mist From: Murray MacLeod I think LL means what is usually known as "Scotch Mist" which is a euphemism for the rain which falls so plentifully in my former homeland. Murray |

23 Apr 01 - 02:51 PM (#447502) Subject: RE: Tune Req: Songs about Scottish Mist From: Lyrical Lady Alex ... it would be literal ... as in fog. I can find lots of references to a Scotch Mist but not anything that actually describes it...LL |

23 Apr 01 - 03:21 PM (#447518) Subject: RE: Tune Req: Songs about Scottish Mist From: Mary in Kentucky MacCrimmon's Lament in the DT uses the words: Round Cuillin's peak the mist is sailing... You can hear a MIDI of it at Lesley's site even though this version doesn't use the word mist. The song, however, is so beautiful, and the story compelling, I would be tempted to somehow use it. |

24 Apr 01 - 07:01 AM (#447956) Subject: RE: Tune Req: Songs about Scottish Mist From: Wolfgang The DT database is a great resource for such questions: I have entered mist @scots into the search window to find all songs that are classified as scottish songs and have the word 'mist' in them. Here's the result. Wolfgang |

24 Apr 01 - 10:41 AM (#448090) Subject: RE: Tune Req: Songs about Scottish Mist From: GUEST,Bruce O. man from England having business to do with another in Scotland, proceeded to Edinburgh by coach and put up an an inn for the night. The man he was to see lived about 10 miles distant, so said Englishman hired a horse and proceeded on his way. After three miles it started to rain, and after five he was soaking wet, and turned around and went back to Edinburgh. The next day the same thing happened. On the third day it didn't start raining until he'd gone 6 miles. At that point he saw a small boy leaning on a fence and looking at the wet rider. Rider asked boy, "Does it always rain in this infernal country?" Boy replied "Naw, sir, sometimes it snaws." |
