Help: Skipjack's Annual Vacation Session Plea

It seems to be that time of year again. Last year's voyage to Norfolk (UK) yielded a good response, even if the nearest session was 30 miles from the boat!

This year, the present Mrs Skipjack tells me we're going to Italy. I will probably try and shoe-horn my squeezer into a luggage rack on the plane, and take it to the land of it's conception and birth.

We are flying into Turin, mid August, and will be domiciled in the hills somewhere north east of Milan. I hope to cut loose and drive down to Castelfidardo and case the accordion museum there, but the big question is ........ Is there such a thing as a session anywhere in the northen half of Italy. Don't fancy getting my ass kicked down south; still struggling with Accordion Crimes!

Mrs Skipjack was dead impressed when you came up with the Quiet Man in Paris, Brendy. Can you work your magic again? Or any other kind 'Catter who has the knowledge of where celts do it in the Po valley?

Tough one!

Hi Skipjack, How are you? Sounds like a great trip. If you go to google.com and then search for Laurent Daverio (if you aren't fluent in French, you can ask google to translate), you'll find the website of this French guy who plays accordion, and perhaps he would know of jam sessions in Italy. His webpage says his last name is a village in Italy. Hi Noreen! Hope to see all you wonderful UK Mudcatters again soon! -Linda Portland, Oregon, US

Unfortunately, Skipjack, they are two towns about whose pub culture I know little. I did a quick search, though, and came up with these:

Pubs in Turin. There's quite a lot of them, and they are not in any specific categories. A bit of scrolling is needed, but you'll spot the names, anyway.

Irish Pubs in Milan

I have a list somewhere about decent places in Milano, and I'll hunt it out for you. I didn't recognise any familiar names as I was browsing the lists.
(Though you've got to admit...Pouge Mahone's (aaarrrrgggghhh), sounds 'interesting') But I'll send the word out, and I'll get back to you on it, no problem.

No plans for a 'northward jaunt' any time soon, then?

Catch you later.

B.

Noreen, view it as incarceration, and sleep easier in your bed!

Linda, good to hear ya! Runaway prize winner of the heaviest suitcase Oscar! We can't even take marmite to Holland, and you try an smuggle half the landmass of Cumbria to Oregon (as if Oregon needs it!). Some of my best friends are rock fetishists; even I have been known to lug the odd rock from the pile that remains where they hit down grandma's bothy in Sligo. I'll have a look at Laurents bits. Mrs Skipjack is gifted with lingua Francais, and I'm an eejit with them translator machines.

Brendy, my man!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks in advance and retard. Will enjoy researching what you've given me thus far. No trips planned to wonderful Norway, but I'm keeping my eyes on the cheapie airfares. Not your thing, I know, but I picked up a taste for Linie Aquavit.

I like it, Skippy! Do they allow concertinas in too, or only those oversized firestarters that you play? And you talk about Linda carrying heavy stuff! Sheesh! :0)

Avast, the monsoon has broken, and I've got Ireland in me sights. We are staying with Cara, the potato orchestra, up near Boyle, on the Roscommon/Sligo border. They are recording their second CD whilst we're there, but I would like to cut loose for a session or three next week. We arrive late tomorrow night, and stay for the week, leaving Saturday 24th.

Anything between Roscommon and Sligo towns would be welcome, if they let sympathetic furriners sit in.

Hull/North Lincs loss is Ireland's gain-but isn't that the wrong direction for Italy? Are you equipped with Purple Helmet?
