I registered but it wouldn't work for me so I uninstalled! Perhaps I'll try again sometime.

Yes I installed Paltalk for Mudcat gatherings and have been relatively trouble free (keeping fingers crossed ) but have not installed the update.

Yes I installed PALTALK specifically to use for Mudcat activities. I have had little or no trouble with it.

The new update is causing me a few headaches but the rooms run the same. I shall not subscribe to Paltalk to run a room though. Yours, Aye. Dave

I installed it but couldn't use it successfully. There was too great a delay.

I have it on two computers. Because it was tedious to reply to the update questions each time it opened, I accidentally hit the wrong button one time and updated on one computer. I feel the sound quality is a little less, but I'm not quite sure. It's been too little time and too many variables to know for sure. Overall my experience has been positive. I seem to have a faster connection than most folks because I usually applaud a few seconds faster. As far as paying....don't know yet. I used it a lot during the winter months, but can't seem to come inside now that the weather is so nice.

I installled Paltalk as a direct result of reading about it here, at the Mudcat. I know my sister did the same. I've had relatively few problems with it and had raved about it to anybody and everybody I know who owns a computer. I also know that a business colleague of ours installed it on his computer in Venezuela because of our recommendation and he is in the process of setting up a system for a university there which will include Paltalk, as far as I know.

Installed because of Mudcat. No update. Few problems. Don't use often enough to justify paying.

Well, I just installed the updated version and had major problems figuring out my mic; when I'd not had problems before. It seems to be okay now. I did notice that as soon as I sign on there are independent popups which come up immediately and our friend in VZ tried to call us, the popups interfered with my getting his ring and we never conencted. Will have to see how it goes, I guess.

I installed PalTalk for MudCat room purposes. Couldn't get on and register, Went through all the diagnostic stuff the FAQ refers to, and no soap. Uninstalled it, redownloaded and reinstalled it, because I thought I had goofed in the registration process. Went through the registration process, and it wouldn't recognize or allow any password I tried. Gave up. DURN!

I installed PalTalk about the time we moved away from HearMe. I can't remember whether I've updated it since then but if they presented me with a request to update, I probably did.

I have no trouble with PalTalk and have never used it for anything except Mudcat activities. I've had trouble trying to contribute through PalTalk but the problem is with my microphone, not PalTalk.

I downloaded it as soon as Jon mentioned it. I've had no problems whatsoever downloading it. And, I've downloaded it onto several different computers, from Compaqs to Dells to Gateways. Some with Windown 95, others with 97, others with NT. All work perfect!!

I was an early no problems joiner with Jon

I also use paltalk now for international family connections

I would think my gear is only just 'entry level" but I'm delighted with the sound quality

When push comes to shove I shall pay

OK, here is my statement for this thread:

I installed Paltalk but it wasn't as a result of promtion by another Mudcatter. I did some research and suggested it to other Mudcatters and most if not all of those who have commented above, registered directly or indirectly as a result of that move and my setting up of a Mudcat room to replace the old Hearme room which by that time had become unstable.

When I saw it, I welcomed the new oppertunities it offered, oppertunities to offer and welcome in new people with the ability to control trouble makers and a means to vist and meet new people in other rooms - a potential that never was fully realised by many within our group but something quite new (and I thought exciting) from moving from our Hearme setup. I was also impressed with the quality of sound.

There were a few drawbacks though, the help needed to enable some of our old Hearme participants to get a correct install was never there and flashing banner ads were something new to contend with. Other than that, I guess the only other big dissapointment (common to all voice chats I've tried) is a lack of Mac support - it does split groups.

I am not specially concerned about charges (although I do think commercial rates are excessive) for locked rooms which have done little to enhance the community feeling that has become part of my enjoyment of a "Paltalk Experience" within the music rooms I visit but I see it as part of what I consider to be agressive tactics by Paltalk.

I have had to put up with upgrades that seem to enable pop up ads and offer little if anything else and now a pop up ad saying something like "are you annoyed with pop ups - sign up and get rid?" this is in your face bullying tactics and in itself an acknowledgement they are deliberatly annoying their own users.

I guess I will stick with Paltalk while I think the benifits outway the irritations but I can't see Paltalk remaining on the "plus side" much longer.

Jon

I heard about PalTalk through Mudcat and used it for a while when I had a PC. When I switched to Mac I could no longer use it.

The only problems I have had with Paltalk is that my local phone lines will just barely support the needed connection speed - and many nights (when local traffic is high) I cannot get paltalk to function as I cannot connect at the required speeds.

I did too. No real problems here, now my mic's set up and my "adult groups" box is checked.
