Hello there, does anyone out there know anything about changing from analogue to digital satelite services??? For quite a few years now I have enjoyed the privelige of listening to my home radio ( RTE ) via astra satelite. The same went for BBC (1,2,3,4),plus of course Sky news on the TV. Now I hear they are all going or have gone digital. When I enquired per Email I was told there is only one possible option and that is to go digital. That is to buy a DVB receiver. Can anyone help me on that one. Can I use the new receiver with the old dish???What does one need to do or buy or whaterver. I would be grateful for any help on this one.I miss my programmes on the radio very much, and my connection with the daily goings on at home! Brigie

Sorry Brigie, I know something about satellite systems here in the US, but they're a bit different over there.

You probably have an analogue LNB (the electronic bit on the arm of the dish) so that will have to be changed. On the house I bought the LNB didn't work so I had a "digital ready" one fitted at about 70 quid including call-out charge, LNB and aligning (a simple enough job but not without the right test gear).
Then there is the receiver.
I got a second-hand analogue set but after a year I notice channels are going blank (assume digital) and radio stations are disappearing.
Mind you I found R4 was always noisy compared to my super all-band radios.
Still until Eurosport stop screening the motorbike (& sidecar) races I will stick with analogue because when it rains or snows (enough) the signal degrades until all you see is "snow" but with digital there is a threshold and you loose everything, long before you get fed up of a poor signal!
"No signal" has "no quality"!
spot the electronic engineer!
