03 May 01 - 12:09 AM (#454443) Subject: Does Anyone Recognize This Tune? From: NightWing In the thread "Bawdy songs for women to sing", lady penelope posted a very funny bawdy lyric. She didn't post a tune for it, though. I came up with a tune that fits the rhythm of the words and I'm wondering if this is something I've heard somewhere or if I actually invented an original tune. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
T:Hurrah for Toyboys! If it's "original", I suspect it's bits and pieces of stuff I've always known. Anybody recognize even bits and pieces?

From: Snuffy Nightwing I couldn't place your tune, but there seemed to be elements of The Lincolnshire Poacher and possibly The Bonny Blue Flag. Here's the ABc of the tune for Doodle Let Me Go given by Hugill. Note that it's modal - i.e. it's in D but all C's are natural. As for structure, Hugill and DT give it as 4 lines - Verse, Refrain, Chorus, Refrain; Lady P gives it as 6 lines - Verse, Refrain, Verse, Refrain, Chorus, Refrain; and I've heard it as 8 lines - Verse, Refrain, Verse, Refrain, Chorus, Refrain, Chorus repeat, Refrain. As the tune is effectively two lines repeated ad lib, you can do it any way you want with the same tune.

03 May 01 - 07:35 PM (#455231) Subject: RE: Tune Req: Does Anyone Recognize This Tune? From: Sorcha Snuffy, is it Bonny Blue Flag or Rally Round the Flag? I think the latter, but it is only echoes of it. Like Mario, it's familiar but I can't place the entire thing. |

Click on the grey "find again" buttons to narrow the search. Not an exact match, but there are interesting similarities. -Joe Offer- |
