Subject: unusual cowboy song

I know this ain't in the DB; at a cowboy poetry & song meeting last week-end a guy sang a song abt an ol' cowboy that just disappears, being out of synch w/the modern world.

the chorus has a part which loosely mimics the night sounds of the coyote, something vaguely like: oohyip, ooh-yip, ooh/odalooh-yip,oh-yipa-hoo/ooh-yip, ooh-yip, ooh/odalooh-yip,oh-yipa-hoo.

The rest of the chorus lists various things or people gone from the western scene: Long horns are gone, drovers are gone, comanchees are gone, Outlaws are gone/Geronimo is gone, Sam Bass is gone, the Lion is gone, the Red Wolf is gone....

If anybody knows the Name & Author of this song & where I might find the words, it's the 'Catters..

he disappeared without even a word.

It is a recent song BTW, written by Bob McDill and on an album titled "Songs of the Oregon Trail/Saddle Songs and Campfire Tales" listed here on this site.

I've got a version by Don Edwards on his Goin' Back To Texas CD. The Nashville great Bob McDill is hard to beat....I love to sing it...it's so real.............

That is a FAB song and Don Edwards is my all-time cowboy music hero. And if you ever get a chance to meet him, he is one of the world's nicest folks.

Nancy and I had Don and his wife Kathy in concert here a year ago this month and you're absolutely right. A fabulous singer and guitar player and truly great people. One of the highlights of our folk concerts so far........
