07 May 01 - 02:27 PM (#457135) Subject: WHITBY MOOR AND COAST From: JeZeBeL I'd just like to say how amazing I thought moor n coast was. I have never been before, being quite new to folk and all that!! The concerts were great apparently. I didn't get to any myself. The pubs were FANTASTIC!! I got to lots of them, and the late night sessions in the tap n spile n black horse n plough AND the food tent were just great. I'd like to thank everybody who went for helping me enjoy it so much. I haven't had so much fun ever before!! Just one problem now though.....I can't play my bodhran....and you won't believe why............................ The session was that good n fast n fun last night that I have actually managed to sprain my wrist while I was playing!! Can you get anymore stupid? Oh well, Till next year everyone!! Hope to see some of you throughout the year at diff festivals. By the way is anyone going to Holmefirth this weekend? Emma xxxx |

My 7 year old (Little Duckling) fell in love! She now sleeps with Tanglefoot's flyer under her pillow and thinks Terry is gorgeous. He says she is a little sweetie. Should I buy a new hat? |

Maggie and I got home about 9pm 'cos we had been asked to play in a nearby(ish) village for a Mayfest on the way home on the Monday. So we played in the pub garden with lots of local friends, and then played and sang in the pub for quite a lot longer. The landlady rustled up some grub and free drinks for us so we could keep singing and playing. My throat was bad enough before that following extensive sessions in the Tap 'n' Spile on the Saturday and Sunday. It's nice to get back to work for a rest. Les |

The sessions were fantastic and I thought the concerts were really good. There was a great atmosphere throughout but the two highlights for me was the session in the Tap and Spile on Sunday and the OLd Rope String Band concert on Saturday night. I'm sorry to hear about your wrist, my accordion bent a reed which one note go lovely out of tune!! so Roll on Holmfirth, so I can get it fixed!! Cheers, Sam |

I must apologise for Redcar Mike (Malawi Mike) but he really is a nice bloke. The highlight's of the weekend were for me seeing and performing with Coblers Monday on Saturday Morning stone cold sober ! THAT'S A FIRST I HERE YOU CRY! The Bar did not open until we had been on stage for 15 min. For those who do not know Coblers Monday I have to explain that we never rehearse and we never have a set list of what we are going to sing. However on the Saturday Morning Phil Jones got Redcar Mike, Allan Perks, Mike Haywood, to rehearse a Long Sword Dance for us to perform during our Saturday Night Session in the Endeavour. However in our defence I have to say that Angie Haywood (Red Angel (2?) rehearsed the Dance to fill in for Mike Green who was at work. (Mike Green's the curator of the Captain Cook Museum and can only get on line when he is at work.) We also failed to tell Mike Green until we gave him a sword to dance with what he was going to do. To make thing's fair, on Mike Green who was now at some disadvantage to the rest,and to even things up I decided that instead of using the Keel Row as the music I would instead play and sing Dead Skunk In The Middle Of The Road for them to dance to. The Sword Dance went down very well as did the lock of Swords that did hold together for at least 5 Seconds before the inevitable, Boy did we stink! I was particularly impressed with Mike Green who joined Coblers Monday for last Years Captain Cook Sea Shanty Festival. Last year he was in a panic about just what we were going to sing and when. Now he has joined the laid back fun that Coblers Monday try to create. The best example of this is that when Mick Haywood decided to end the session in the Endeavour by starting us upon one last set. I suddenly found myself in a huddle with each member of the group singing a harmony to a single note. How it started I am not sure, I just joined in. I was thinking at the time "I have no idea were this is going". As the note reached its peak and stopped I then heard Mike Green start a song "Eee by Gum but its Cold" he sang. The rest of Coblers Monday said to each other "Eee I wondered were that was going". If you missed Coblers Monday you missed a lot of great fun thanks lad's I don't really mind being shanghaied and I do quite often remember all the fun we all create. Next Week Holmfirth I shall be there I don't however I do not know at the moment in what guise. I was asked if I wanted to be an MC or a Guest? I said ether! I should have my voice back by then. The rest of Coblers Monday should be holding down there regular session on Sunday afternoon in the Endevour. The one's who are still standing will be in the Tap N Spile's Sunday Night Session run by Deric Elliot. It was great to see so many smiling faces. I would love to have been involved in the front room Diddlies, but you can't be everywhere. We will definitely be at Holmfirth on Saturday. So Malawi Mick has been stirring it, has he? What can you expect from the loudest voice since they silenced the Hawsker Bull. We shall be at Holmfirth on Saturday and hopefully at the Gathering. To get to the Jug you come off the M62 east bound follow the signs for Selby A19 ( It's the same Junction 34 as you would use to get to the Railway Tavern at Hensell (Rod's Club)) off the slip road 2nd exit on the Roundabout. Follow your nose when you go over the bridge you are at Chapel Hadersley. Turn right off the A19 to the Jug you can see it from the A19 but only if you look up this road. |
