09 May 01 - 04:04 AM (#458516) Subject: RE: I will go/The Rumour - Andy M. Stewart ? From: Boab Dunno who wrote "I Will Go", but I first heard it performed by Ronnie Browne of the Corries. It refers to the predicament experienced by many Highland soldiers after the Jacobite defeat at Culloden, when, after serving with the British army on promise of pardon, they returned to find their families evicted and their lands converted to sheep farming. "I will go, I will go,When the fighting is over To the land of McLeod That I left to be a soldier-- I will go, I will go." If you can't raise a copy of the lyrics, let me know and I'll supply the rest. [Usually performed using bodhran.] Boab |

Catalogue CLUC-CD94. Distributed by Distributions Madacy Inc., PO Box 1445 St-Laurent, Quebec, Canada H4L 4Z1. The CD is full of hokey old Scottish songs but what the heck - sometimes hokey old Scottish songs are just what you need. |
