09 May 01 - 11:58 PM (#459267) Subject: Seeking American songs for July fourth From: Margo Did a forum and Digitrad search using "patriotic and American" and only came up with political threads. Heck. I am invited to sing or play for a July fourth celebration and the music has to be American, preferably from the time period surrounding the declaration of independence. I have a gal willing to sing harmony with me a'cappella, so have you any ideas? Margo |

The @ indicates that it's a keyword: a descriptive word that probably doesn't appear in the lyrics. |

10 May 01 - 04:14 PM (#459898) Subject: RE: Seeking American songs for July fourth From: Uncle_DaveO The second-favorite (after Yankee Doodle) Revolutionary War song with the troops was a hymn tune called Chester. Despite that it's called a hymn, it's nationalistic and warlike. Should be in the DT. If not, let me know and I'll post it. I recommend it. Dave Oesterreich |

Ode on Science by Jezaniah Sumner, 1798 If you try those first two, one of you should sing the melody on the middle line & the other pick one of the harmony lines. |
