Help: SKIN OF ALE

from another board comes the question - does anyone know who wrote the song with the following chorus?

If I had a bag of silver I would trade it for a song,
For silver is too heavy when the road is long.
And though I've no objection to a single glass of wine,
I'd rather share a Skin of Ale, with good friends of mine.

for myself - wondering what the tune is and the verses....

latest rumour is it may be of SCA origin in the North Florida area.

I just sent an e mail to the King of Trimaris.....we'll see what happens. Trimaris does have a large active bardic guild, and a Court Bard (who is supposed to know everything, hee hee hee)

I know this is way out of time for y'all but Skin of Ale used to be performed by Dragonsfaire at the Florida Renaissance Festival. It was one of my favourite songs. It was not originally a Trimaris song, but it was introduced to the SCA by the folks down in Shire of Sangre de Sol since two Dragonsfaire members were Scadians (they are who got me into the SCA)

Oh and I didn't mention this, but Dragonsfaire claimed to have gotten it from somewhere out west from the original authors or something.
