BS: Pleasant Surprises

Were you ever pleasantly surprised/amazed by the way something turned out when you expected it to go poorly?

I was at a singing session the other night in Glasgow - it's usually a great night - hosted by Tom Laurie at the Cafe Source in St Andrew's Square. Wednesday was looking to be a bit quiet - by 9 pm, there were only a couple of us there.. but then Tom came through and said - "there's a band rehearsing in one of the other rooms, and they might come in and join us for a while after the rehearsal".

The "band" was the Whistlebinkies, traditional musicians par excellence, and doyens of Scottish trad music.
And sure enough, they wandered through, bearing clarsach, flute, fiddle, concertina, Lowland pipes, bodhran. And they joined in singing, playing tunes.

It was a great evening..

Other experiences of potential disappoitment turning to a great experience??

Cheers SD

Liked your song Mbo...

Apparently they intend to rehearse regularly at St Andrew's Square on a Wednesday, and may well come through and sit in the session.

So, if you're in Glasgow, drop by Cafe Source of a Wednesday evening, and who knows? The singing session is first-rate. Tom's a very genial host, and even if the Binkies aren't there, you'll be made very very welcome..

Cheers
