19 May 01 - 10:41 PM (#466590) Subject: Mexican song sites From: GUEST,Fred Does anyone know of any handy sites for lyrics for Mexican songs. I remember just the beginning of one I would like to recall: Alla in el rancho grande, Alla donde vivia,... and then Que allegre me dicia (X3). I would appreciate any help on this one. (I am always amazed at how quickly such help arrives from the Mudcat.) |

22 May 01 - 06:15 PM (#468170) Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Mexican song sites From: Chicken Charlie Another verse not on site linked by Sorcha the adroit linker:
Nunca me fies de promesas, Free trans: Don't give me promises or talk to me of love, but if you bring me pumpkins, make sure they're good ones. That may or may not be inuendo and may or may not be the reason why that verse was not included. There is a group in San Diego called "Los Californios" which has done at least one CD of Mexican trad stuff. Not Rancho Grande but Capotin, Sombrero Blanco and much else. Don't know if that's for sale other than privately. They also collected a Mexican version of "Oh Susana."
Susana paseaba en un buque de vapor Poco tiempo San Francisco, poco tiempo Mazatlan, Se hacemos muy rico, con dinero pa' gaspar. Ay, Susana .... Freely: S. travelled on a steamer. She was crying for her mother and her lover. Oh, Susana, don't you cry for me, 'cause I bound for San Francisco to get gold you. A little time in Frisco, a little time in Mazatlan, and we'll become rich with money to throw around. Another good search key on this would be Charles Lummis, whose collection of Edison cylinders, transcriptions, etc. ended up at the Southwest Museum in Los Angeles. CC |
