Act/Artist suggestions for Florida

Seems like Central Florida (Orlando area) is finally ready to hire some traditional(ish) singers for our mini-concerts and/or house parties. But it's been so long that I've been here in the cultural wilderness that I haven't a clue who's on the circuit.

I'd be most grateful for any and all suggestions of who might be worth contacting. And their contacts, if known. Likely we could arrange two or three or four venues.

I'm thinking of almost _anyone_ that isn't a singer/songwriter or pop singer - blues, ballads, sea stuff, even Tom Paley.

Thanks

Roy Bookbinder. Lives almost on your doorstep. www.roybookbinder.com.

Abby, if you come across anyone else tradional(ish) please let me know about them too, we would like to book them for the Folk Club of South Florida at our wonderful venue here in Homestead in the Main Street Cafe. We got plenty of singer/songwriters in S Fl, but we need to leaven the mixture a little .......

I suggest you both get in touch with paddymac. He has a wonderful Irish group called "Paddy Go Easy." They have an amazing repertoire of music. James Kelly is down there in south Florida as well and Brendan Nolan is in the Tampa area.

The FOFF newsletter has all sorts of Florida bands and solo acts for hire. Plus, everyone wants to winter in Florida so touring goes up in the winter months and we get to see people we might not normally see. Mark O'Conner is doing a workshop with his next concert in the Tampa area.

Randy and Beth Judy put on the Suwannee Springfest and the MagnoliaFest and those acts are often available for smaller venues while in the area.

Plenty of traditional acts to be found right here within the borders of Florida, Abby...

Upsala - traditional string band from Flagler Beach Brendan Nolan -- amazing celtic musician, Tampa/St. Pete Bill Shustik - here' you sea shanties and civil war tunes - Sarasota area, I think. Ernie Williams - Traditional Banjo - San Antinio (FL) Patchwork - Traditional vocals (wonderful) Gainesville? Skin and Bonz - Appalachian Trads - from St. Augustine Frank and Ann Thomas -- Cracker Music - Lake Wales Lynn Wadley -- Auto harp, mountain dulcimer, saw - Jacksonville Jim and Elaine- Dulcimers, traditional tunes - Eustis

There are others I'm leaving out -- but here's a start. If you want contact numbers let me know.

Paul

Paul, good suggestions. We've had Upsala a couple of times and I very much enjoyed them. The others are all new to me and interesting. Especially the singers. Yes, I'd very much like the contact numbers.
