21 May 01 - 08:21 PM (#467474) Subject: Spyware Query From: GUEST,Spyware Curious Can someone explain what is meant by 'spyware' From what I've read, computer 'experts' think that it's terrible, but never seem to explain why. I'm just an average windows 98 user, who has nothing to hide. Should I be bothered, or is it paranoid hype? Grateful for any thoughts. Guest |

It is one of those odd things that is morally reprehensible and yet somehow legally and condoned as a means of improving market share. 21 May 01 - 09:23 PM (#467512) Subject: RE: Spyware Query From: Bill D because of this problem, there are now programs designed to find spyware on your computer and give YOU the option to delete it, and other programs designed to give YOU control over what come into your computer (beyond virus worries)...many otherwise good programs do report on YOUR internet habits, and it should be YOUR choice whether to allow this. 'Almost' all functions can be done with spy-free programs, many of them free!...I will post some links in a bit outlining where to get info and what programs are 'bad'...and where to get replacements if you wish to avoid spyware. |
