Goon Show fans (stand up, Roger--oh, you are standing up) will be delighted to know that next Tuesday, 29 May, is Goons Night on the Beeb: from 7 to 10.30 p.m. Radio 2 will be broadcasting ... oh, all kinds of Goon Show stuff--buy your own Radio Times!

Steve

P.S. There is a musical connection here, I just can't put my finger on it ...

Terrific! My teenage son has only had a scratchy old recording to listen to up till now. THanks for letting us know (my religion does not allow me to buy the Radio Times)

Right, Moriarty - just slip this modern-type copy of the Radio Times into your cardboard and string scanner, will you? Now press certain butuons. Another 85p saved!

Oh, blessings upon you, Mr Parkes.

I am too mean and curmudgeonly to buy RT, so I keep missing things like this as my free listings thingies all print radio programs in a typeface too small for my deteriorating eyesight to encompass.

I shall be there, cassettes ready, to record the events for posteriors.

Thanks again, Steve.

Will this be available on the 'net? And if so, 7PM in whose time zone? Greenwich, undoubtedly, I suppose.

I should explain this to any Mudcatters who are looking at this and thinking "another wasted thread". On second thought, no I won't, the cat wants to go out. How do I know? He's put on his hat and coat. Why can't he just wear a knitted pullover like the dog?

Alison, you beat me to it. Would some kind-hearted or lunged or livered or kidneyed Brit soul tape the whole show for me? I'll pay all expenses, tapes, postage, fish and chips and curried eggs. Please/

Herself has promised me she'll record this for me next Tuesday evening. It'll take about 3 tapes. I don't have tape-to-tape dub capacity at the moment so I'm not the best person to do dupes. BUT
IF no-one else does it
IF she remembers/stays awake to turn the tapes over
IF I can get a friend to dupe for me (he doesn't share my musical taste and bravely did some tapes for me in the past despite this!)
I will do so.
THEN I'll tell those who don't already have my E-mail what it is (can't PM as I remain cookie-less GUEST here at work) and we'll work something out. Perhaps sending tapes to one person in Canada/US/Australia to take orders from the others?
I wouldn't want anything back, just send a bung to Mudcat instead.

Radio 2 ("cjampion of Folk music"!) is launching a new Folk site (see here). It says it's due to appear on May 23rd--hey, taht's today! It doesn't say what time; presumably it hasn't started yet. I'll start a new thread to anounce the news.

Checking their website, it looks like it will not be on-line. However, I e-mailed a request for it, and asked them to post it here if it is possible. Let's hope for the best (and maybe pester them into doing it!)
