Lyr Add: Goodbye Muirsheen Durkin

Subject: Lyr Add: GOODBYE MUIRSHEEN DURKIN
From: GUEST,Nathan In Texas

I transcribed this for someone on the Cyberpluckers list after searching and not finding it in the data base. There's a version called Molly Durkin already listed, but this one's almost completely different. I got it from a 1967 album entitled "The World Famous and Justly Popular Barney Peters." Not sure about the spelling of some of the words, particularly "Kenturking".

GOODBYE MUIRSHEEN DURKIN

Since the days I went a-courtin'
I was never tired resortin'
To the alehouse or the playhouse
Or many's the house besides
I told me brother Seamus
I'll go out and grow right famous
And before I come back again I'll roam the whole world wide

So goodbye Muirsheen Durkin, sure, I'm sick and tired of working
No more I pick potatoes, No longer I'll be fooled
And sure as my name is Barney
I'm off to Californy,
Instead of picking taties, I'll be digging lumps of gold

I've courted girls in Blarney and Kenturking in Killarney
In In Passage and in Queenstown that is the call to port
Goodbye to all the pleasures for I'm going to take my leisures
And the next time that you'll hear from me is a letter from New York.

So goodbye Muirsheen Durkin, sure, I'm sick and tired of working
No more I pick potatoes, No longer I'll be fooled
And sure as my name is Barney
I'm off to Californy,
Instead of digging taties, I'll be digging lumps of gold

Goodbye to all the boys at home, I'm sailing far across the foam
To try and make my forturne in far Americay\
There's gold and silver plenty
For the poor and for the gentry
And when I come back again, I never more will say

So goodbye Muirsheen Durkin, sure, I'm sick and tired of working
No more I pick potatoes, No longer I'll be fooled
And sure as my name is Barney
I'm off to Californy,
Instead of digging taties, I'll be digging lumps of gold

Also this thread from two months ago, where lyrics were also posted, with links to the TWO versions already in the DT, one of which is virtually identical to the above:  Lyr Add: Muirsheen Durkin

As I pointed out then, the trick in this case is not to try searching for the whole title, as many people don't know how to spell it, but to try instead for a phrase from the song, or just simply DURKIN.
