10 Jun 01 - 04:10 AM (#480090) Subject: RE: BS: PALTALK OPEN From: Liz the Squeak Just a suggestion - rather than post when room is open, why not, if you can, post the previous day so that we poor UK 'Cats have a chance to prepare ourselves.... Not to mention anyone else who might want to play but can't spend all day dropping in and out just on the off chance. What ever happened to the regular Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday night slots? Has the admin decided it can't be done? Have Paltalk decided it can't be done? Please, can we have a bit more warning and regularity for Paltalk? LTS |

10 Jun 01 - 05:23 AM (#480104) Subject: RE: BS: PALTALK OPEN From: Jon Freeman Liz, some of these rooms while "owned" by Mudcatters are not Mudcat rooms and are opened as and when the owner feels like it. There can be various factors involved. I have found myself opening becuase I wanted a more folky biased mix than the Live and Unplugged rooms offer although I am normally quite happy in these rooms - just a question of mood. I have known someone open when the Live and Unplugged rooms have got too busy, someone else may open because a few people who like folk are around... I could be wrong but I think it is unlikely that those of us who like floating round a cross section of rooms are likely to wish to run to any schedule. If you want to start something at a set time, the best answer is to open a room yourself. The Snug may still be availible for this purpose. Failing that, you can always create your own room. Jon |

10 Jun 01 - 07:07 AM (#480134) Subject: RE: BS: PALTALK OPEN From: dwditty Hi Liz, Ah, if only my life allowed me to schedule time that I can sit and play, let alone use Mudcat, Paltalk, or whatever. Those things in my life are catch as catch can (strange phrase thread candidate?). Jon is quite right as far as I am concerned. Frankly, I would rather play in a room than be Admin, but I do feel that I owe something back to those that put in the Admin time, so I open up every so often. It is quite easy to set up a room, which you could do and host a regular time slot for catters. I would join as often as possible. While at first some of the popular Live and Unplugged rooms seemed a little hectic, I have gotten quite fond of many of the people these. And, oh, what talent! Several catters are frequent visitors, and it is nice to be able to have a "sidebar" chat with those that you would normally only see in a thread. I also cruise some of the other rooms...bluegrass, country, blues, etc. While many of the rooms are karaoke rooms (which I don't often care for), the people there seem to be having fun, and they also seem to appreciate a live musician popping in. In the end, Paltalk does lack the intimacy of our former all mudcate hearme room, and, yes, there are times I miss that. Occasionally though, I find that I am in a room with Jon Freeman, Jacko, Margaret V, bugsy, Ivan, and a few others, and it is all the more special when it happens. So hang in there. Explore Paltalk, and I am sure you will find a way to get great enjoyment out of it. In the meantime, I will continue to post when I open the room I have set up. Thanks for your comments. dw |

10 Jun 01 - 07:44 AM (#480142) Subject: RE: BS: PALTALK OPEN From: bigchuck Liz, I have converted the Mudcat Concert room to an open unpassworded room, and have opened it twice in the past week as a song circle room. Many people do seem to want a "Mudcat" room, and I prefer the mix of music I hear there. So far there have been only a few non-mudcatters in. While my personal schedule is such that I can't plan to open it on any regular schedule, I am happy to share the admin code and have ther room be used by catters. It will be opened today (Sunday) for a concert at 4:00PM Mudcat time and can stay open for a song circle afterwards if people wish. Sandy |
