Lyr Req: Shed a Little Light (James Taylor)

Subject: SHED a LITTLE LIGHT ON Me?
From: WyoWoman

I was tripping through the tv channels the other night and saw a re-run of Saturday night live featuring a man and back-up group I didn't recognize singing the most wonderful song. The refrain was "Shed a little Light on Me ..." It was at least partially unaccompanied, with beautiful harmonies andI'd love to figure out a.) who that was singing the song, b.)if he's made a recording of that and c.) where I can get lyrics.

Anyone? Anyone?

bueller?

Or it could be "Shed a Little Light" by Mr. Taylor "Oh, let us turn our thoughts today to Martin Luther King/And let us recognize that there are ties between us/ All men and women,etc...) If those words/chords are anywhere to be found. It's on the big J.T. Live album and at least one of the studio ones.

wasn't there a gospel song with that refrain? (I suspect the answers above are correct - but this is buggin' me)

SHED A LITTLE LIGHT
James Taylor

Oh, let us turn our thoughts today to Martin Luther King
And recognize that there are ties between us,
All men and women living on the earth,
Ties of hope and love, sister and brotherhood;
That we are bound together in our desire to see the world
Become a place in which our children can grow free and strong.
We are bound together by the task that stands before us
And the road that lies ahead.
We are bound and we are bound.

There is a feeling like the clenching of a fist.
There is a hunger in the center of the chest.
There is a passage through the darkness and the mist,
And though the body sleeps, the heart will never rest.

Shed a little light, O Lord, so that we can see,
Just a little light, O Lord.
Wanna stand it on up, stand it on up, O Lord,
Wanna walk it on down, shed a little light, O Lord.

Can't get no light from the dollar bill,
Don't give me no light from a TV screen.
When I open my eyes, I wanna drink my fill
From the well on the hill.
Do you know what I mean?

Shed a little light, O Lord, so that we can see,
Just a little light, O Lord.
Wanna stand it on up, stand it on up, O Lord,
Wanna walk it on down, shed a little light, O Lord.

There is a feeling like the clenching of a fist.
It is a hunger in the center of my chest.
It is a passage through the darkness and the mist,
And though the body sleeps, the heart will never rest.

Oh, let us turn our thoughts today to Martin Luther King,
And recognize that there are ties between us,
All men and women living on the earth,
Ties of hope and love, sister and brotherhood.

[There is a rather nice concert video you can see at YouTube.]

I'm not familiar with this song, but I will listen to it soon. Refreshing on the anniversary of M.L.K.'s 1963 "I have a Dream" speech
