Lyr Req: Old Patchwork Song

Subject: Old Patchwork Song
From: Tony in Darwin

Can anyone supply more lyrics and a tune; we found this reference in "The Romance of the Patchwork Quilt in America" by Carrie A. Hall, dated 1935

"Grannie sits in her oaken chair
The firelight flits o'er her silvery hair
The silent children around her sit
As she pieces her patchwork coverlet
She tells them her story of London Town
And shows them the scraps of her bridal gown
Each fragment there is a printed page
With mem'ries written 'twixt youth and age

From the old song, Patchwork"

Any help at all would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Tony

I have looked all over the net, and only found the same frag above with no more credits than that. I wonder if I could ILL the book (out of print) and see if there are any more credits in it? Obviously, there won't be more verses, but maybe a credit???

It's driving me nuts, so I ILL'd the book from my library. We'll see if there is any accreditation in the actual book..........

Sorry, nothing comes up on the web except this, which is probably what Sorcha found.

Yes, it's the same. I did ILL the book, and there is NOTHING more in it--not even in the bibliography. Sorry. It's a neat book, tho.

It is under Quilting CD - sorry couldn't work the Url. But if you search for Quilting songs in your search machine you'll find it. have a listen ,,,,,,,and a laugh

I have the CD that Guest Brigie mentions, it is a beauty - several of the songs have a connection to Oz too.
Cheers

Thanks to all for your perseverance.
Perhaps I should have mentioned that the "we" in the original question was, in fact, my friend and sometime singing partner Cathy Miller. Cathy and her husband John (who also sings with us) spend part of each year in Darwin. Cathy attended a few quilting classes run by my partner, Jenny Armour, and did a lot of the song-writing for that CD in Oz.

But it seems that, for now, there's nothing more to be found about the song in my first post.

Thanks for all your efforts. I'll send Cathy a copy of this thread...she'll love the circular nature of the quest!!!

Cheers, Tony

I found several books that contain the same verse that Tony posted. None had any more, but one did give a source:

PATCHWORK
Words by H. L. D'Arcy Jaxone, music by Odoardo Barri, sung by Madame Antionette Sterling.
London: B. Williams, [1883]

The British Library has the sheet music. That's all I was able to find.

Thank you, especially Tony and Jim, for all the research on this. I'll get in touch with the British Library and see if they can help me on this. What a great resource you all are!!!
