4 women from Vancouver Island...called Virgo Rising...Tracy Summers, Sharon Hazelwood, Sue Postans, Karen Gillmore

They really have a nice CD out..I was at B's farm and listened to it and almost wore it out. Really great versions of Linda Allen's Weaving and Quilting and David Lavine's Save a Place.

The address to get it from is Virgin Crab productions 1217 Montrose Ave., Victoria, VBC V8T2K3 phone 250-384-5174 email yb379@freenet.victoria.bc.ca

I've been at music camps with Sue and I can't think of anyone with a more powerful or beautiful voice......it is blended in this CD with other lovely voices so you don't really hear how powerful she can get..but it comes out in a couple of places...

Thanks, Mary, that sounds like something I would really enjoy. I will check it out.

I wouldn't call this spam, ddw, but a suggestion/review of a CD by a Mudcatter. Thanks Mary.

No offence meant — just a question. The "guest" tag and pretty un-'Cat-like name just made me wonder.

Mary, "Spamming" is commercial interests using chat rooms to hawk their products, sometimes without making it clear that's what's going on.

Mary: Valentine Doyle sang a fine song about (was it?) Peters River -- all the boats with their bottoms turned to the sky -- I think she said "Mary Garvey" when I asked her whose song that was. Are you the maker of that song? If so, well done! Valentine sang it, by the way, at the song swap in the Old Dutch Barn at the Old Songs Festival on Saturday night.

I did...I was on a visit to Peter's River, Newfoundland, where I had worked on a whale study with Jon Lien, and the boats were all turned upside down there, the men were all hanging around looking embarassed not to be working....it was quite a change from just a few years before. mg

Naw, ddw, Mary doesn't post all that often, but she's been around the 'Cat for quite a while. I knew her in Seattle's Song Circle some years back. Good singer, knows lot's of songs.

Hi, Mary!!

I'm not surprised to hear that she's a good singer with a lot of songs, Don. She sure wrote a good one about Peter's River!

Hey, Mary, any relation to Pat Garvey, who also wrote some darned good ones?

Hi Don...long time no see....but I knew you were here. I have met Pat Garvey and we discussed the possibility ...second cousins or something like that perhaps as I recall but no immediate relation...

Time you were getting rid of that "GUEST" prefix, Mary. Come on and join the Mudcat mob as a regular member. Don will tell you it ain't all that painful. Truly, they're a pretty good bunch and often can be remarkably helpful.

I can't remember how. I think I am registered under 2 names and Joe sent me something on untangling it but it remained tangled for some reason. mg

There you go, Mary. Your cookie works. Nice to see you back. I think we've always encouraged folk musicians to tell us of new recordings we have available. Since it has to do with music, I removed the "BS" category from the thread title.
