I'm looking for the lyrics to the song "Cuckoo's nest" as sung by the late John Hartford.

Many thanks JLouis

It's a Scots song. Listen to Jeannie Robertson sing it. It was probably learned from her anyhow.

This one cuckoo's nest was written by John Hartford. The title is common to several different songs. The tune of the song is original but the commonly known "cuckoo's nest" hornpipe is played between the verses

G'day Jean Louis,

Hmmm... We do have a Cuckoo's Nest song in Australia - collected from railway navvies (line workers). It may well be related to the Scots version sung by Jeannie Robertson ... but it has been through some rough hands since the 19th century ... and probably is not the one you are after.

Regards,

Bob Bolton

You can get the lyrics Is this the one? This one's apparently not by John Hartford; it's labeled as "Traditional." There's an MP3 there.

Do you mean the one with the chorus that goes:

"Some like a girl who is pretty in the face
and some like a girl who is slender in the waist,
But give to me a girl who will wriggle and will twist,
At the bottom of the belly lies the cuckoo's nest."
