BS: Anyone for T in the park???

From: Dave the Gnome

Not 100% sure yet but I may be at T in the park at Kinross next Saturday (July 7). All depends on whether 1 or 2 daughters are going. Not particularly folk but both David Gray and the Proclaimers are on. Anyone else for T?

BTW - If both daughters go I will spend the day in Edinburgh and pick them up later. Any advice if that happens? Good daytime stuff in Edinburgh on a Saturday? (Bearing in mind that I will have to stay sober to pick up the sproggs later!)

Cheers

Whoops! Try This instead

And if that's wrong I give up. Cut and paste www.tinthepark.co.uk instead!

Are you going for the longest thread with only one poster? If so I just spoiled it! Tee Hee

This thread is obviously cursed Dave.
I'll be on stage in the Ceilidh tent, (which is a well kept secret, if the "T in the Park" advertising is anything to go by), with Govan Spoonful on Saturday night. Stop by and say hello if you do go.
love, john.

Cheers John. Will do. Ceilidh tent certainly is a well kept secret - not even on the official web site!

What do you play so I can spot you? I should be easy - bald bearded fat bloke with a mudcat T shirt and slighly bemused expression!!!

Cheers

I'll be the bald bearded fat bloke, wearing the mudcat T shirt, (if it's clean), playing guitar.
The ceilidh tent is shown on the site map, but no listings are ever given, other than outside the tent, it's a bit of a shame that they go to the effort of puting it on, but don't advertise it.
There are I think, three bands on each night playing 40 min sets in rotation, starting on the hour from 5pm.
This Govan Spoonful's third year, it can be a bit hit or miss depending on the crowd. The rule we have found to be best is keep it simple and fast, although sometimes you get a small crowd in who are ceilidh regulars and then we can have a bit of a dance.
Hoping to see you if your there,
love, john.

Things are looking up. News from the official web site -

"With only 3 days to go (ohmigawd) here is the latest news from the T camp…

Firstly, the line up for the all-important Ceilidh Tent. Prepare to swing your pants, and anything else that takes yer funcy, to the delightful tones of Dunragan, Govan Spoonful, Cruithne and Koda on Saturday, while on Sunday you can get those dancing feet a tappin' to The Picts, The Titanic Wash Hoose Band, Kiss-Ass Ceilidh Band and Last Tram to Auchenshugle. Yeeee, and as they say, Haaaaaaaaah. I have also been well informed that the Loch Ness Monster will be making an appearance. I have no idea….."

With twin #2 still saying she ain't going it looks like I will be seeing you there, John. Unless she changes her mind of course.

Have I got everything. If I remember rock concerts from the 60's and 70's well enough. Sun screen. Umberella. Sandals. Wellies. Food. Drink. Pot....

Cheers

Thank Dave, sounds like you'e got it sussed as far as the essentials go. What's this about remembering, the 60's&70s, surely, if you were there you can't.
See you tomorrow then
love, john (Govan Spoonful)

Well, been there, done that, got the yellow plastic poncho...

What a fantastic time we had. I saw loads of bands I didn't know - most were good. Some were brilliant. Saw all I intended to see except Divine Comedy. Proclaimers were brilliant. David Gray was surprisingly good live - I wasn't sure he would be but he is amazing. Placebo (my daughters favourite band) were outstandingly good live. Even had me boppin' in the mud (of which there was plenty...)

Only draw back was that Amy (Twin daughter #1) managed to get herself sqaushed in the 'Mosh' area - Crowd surfed to the med area and was back in 10 mins even nearer the front so no lasting harm. Why do that though? Why go to listen to music and then spend the time bouncing into other people and throwing bottles. Beyond me but then again I am over 40 (and the rest...) Perhaps we should try it at folk festivals? If it draws 10's of thousands why not?

Got to meet fellow mudcater, John (Dita), and saw his band 'Govan Spoonful'. I wasn't sure how a ceilidh tent at a rock concert would work - but you had to see it to believe it. So many young people enjoying the brilliant music of John and the band. Just proved how in Scotland the tradition is a living vibrant thing and accepted even at a this venue - A lesson we could well learn south of the border! And John, your rendition of 'Walk of Life' is second to none:-)

Amy managed to wangle a pass for the hospitality area and a guest ticket. Elaine (Mrs Gnome) and Catherine (Twin daughter #2) managed to spend most of my money in Edinburgh. So a good time was had by all.

V2001 at Stoke next... Anyone there???

Cheers

Hi Dave, It was nice to meet you, came looking for you after we came off, but you'd moved on to pastures new. Glad you enjoyed the festival, the ceilidh tent was biggest so far, and backstage better too. They seem to be begining to take us seriously at last. Mabye next year we'll even get advertised more than 3 days before.
Thanks for the kind words, it is a great feeling to have ~1000 young folks bopping around to trad music, the 7 o'clock set was really busy, (Stage 2 tent full and rain on).
love, john

Thanks, John. Sorry I missed you later but I went 'mainstream' after your spot. Saw the Proclaimers, Placebo and David Gray one after the other and then left around 10:00-ish once re-united with sproglet. Got back to the hotel just after 11 very muddy, tired and ready for the two bottles of becks I managed to extract from the clutches of the night porter!

Just noticed on the official web page that I had a close escape by not going to the Sunday bash. A guest appearance was made by Noel Gallagher - I was trying to get away from Manchester Yobs!

(Stands back in case of explosive Oasis fans..;-))

Cheers
