I was just surfing around the MIDI sites as usual, looking for Chinese breakdown, and found a really good site called http://www.homestead.com/hetzler/music_2.html The best thing about it is that the MIDIs are not computer generated - they seem to be based on real fiddle playing with all those lovely fiddle effects which make a tune really special. However, I have been playing fiddle for 16 years so I have tried to emulate real playing as much as possible. I continually update these files as my skill at creating MIDI files improves. |

I wanted to say how we anticipate using the site at our house, where my husband is the fiddler. Of course first there will be his own learning. But we jam with people who live fairly far away. Some are note readers, some aren't. With your resources, we can e-mail them a link and say, "OK, next month let's try THIS one...." and then when we get together people will have some fraction of a clue where the piece is going, and we can make it our own and start plugging these items into the sets we do here and there. Recent additions to our printed music include Bonnie Rideout's CD and book and then there is a nice book of ancient celtic fiddle tunes I can't recall the title for. I know your site focuses on old-timey, but I bet we will find some overlap as we work through those materials as well. I am also going to find the material useful as I work up hymn arrangements-- to listen to a lot of the MIDIs and get the sound of them in my head-- it will help us adapt a lot of material into a style that leans on old-time, because that is the sound emerging from our Saturday Night service we do weekly, acoustically. So anyhow, I just wnated to let you know that not only is your site wonderful and wonderfully simple in operation and layout, it can have a wide variety of applications and can impact a large number of people in a powerful way. As soon as our new computer arrives I will be "there" quite a bit, and I look forward to seeing the increase in my husband's enjoyment of the process of learning new tunes and new approaches to them. ~Susan CONGRATULATIONS ON A GREAT SITE. |

Both of them were at the Festival of American Fiddle Tunes at Port Townsend washington last week. I highly recommend this fiddle festival/workshop its a blast. Petr |

My 12yo is a promising fiddler and I have downloaded a lot of midis from various sites. Using a programme like MidiNotate it is possible to print out the score for him to try. He is now reaching the stage where he will benefit greatly from playing with other people. |
