Lyr Req: The Night the Whiskey Froze

Subject: Night the Whiskey Froze & Fiddle Tunes with Words?
From: KC King

The tune/song "The Night the Whiskey Froze" is an outstanding member of the genre of pattering words on top of a very danceable fiddle tune. I had Nick Apollonio's, tape, "Music of the Maine Coast" (Soulstice Music, Rockport, ME) which fried in the Orlando, FL sunshine 3 years ago. Does anyone have the words? tune? Where to buy another copy of the tape?

How about other members of this genre such as:

Robin Morton's(?)Invitation set to Funeral/Temperance Reel; Adam McNaughtan's Hamlet set to the Mason's Apron; Jack Foley's Bottle of the Best to(I'm still looking for the name of tune)?

"invitation to a funeral" is in the DT. "price of my pig", also in DT, is a great jig-song.

(refreshing an old thread here)

I found a sample of THE NIGHT THE WHISKEY FROZE sung by Fred Gosbee from his album "The Night the Whiskey Froze" at cdbaby.com. I was able to transcribe one (I think) verse:

I don't remember a colder night.
The wind was blowing with all its might,
And the mercury dropped out of sight
  The night the whiskey froze.
But we were snug(?) from the raging storm.
We snuggled and cuddled all night to keep warm,
And nine months later a child was born
From the night the whiskey froze.

Amazing! I have just listened to the hornpipe and it's very, very close to the pipe tune I slowed down and used for Bottle o the Best. It was The 78th Walkaround which I found in the Queen's Own Highlanders book of standard pipe settings. Well, well. How many "different" tunes are there?

Cheers, Guest# ... demonstrating once again the beauty of this forum. Thread revival @ its best. The verse posted here is enough of a hook. Always on the hunt for lyrics appropriate for the "seniors", and our elderly on the Canadian prairie have experienced "the mercury dropped out of sight" COLD. Perhaps as a follow-up to The cremation of Sam McGee which I am currently attempting to do off-book.
keep pickin'
