'Catters,

I seem toewanewanewan be having this problem. Ewan ewan ewan. I just sawewanewan the movie "Moulin Rouge" (EWAN!!!)and my old adolescent crush on, you guessed it, Ewan McGregor (ewanewanewanewan!!!!!) has taken possession of me. Does anyone know a competent exorcist? (No escape...hehehewanewanewan!!!)

Please help! I'm ten years too old to be having with this sort of thing. Arrrrgh! Quick! Somebody put "Eye of the Beholder," in the VCR and remind me that he's done some really bad movies! I'm desperate herewanewanewanewanewan!

(rolls around the floor clutching the Moulin Rouge soundtrack and speaking in tongues)

Ah, much better. Incidentally, anyone else have the soundtrack to this movie! (See? I brought it round to music eventually). There are some very interesting covers, including a lovely "Complainte de la Butte," sung by Rufus Wainwright, who I'd never heard of before and apparently is quite all the rage. (He sang L. Cohen's "Hallelujah" in SHREK, too).

Anyone have any insights on Wainwright (or McGregor ;)). I'd actually really love it if anyone has an English translation of "Complainte de la Butte," which I was able to track down in French.

Jeez. I vanish off the Mudcat for a month and then come back with a bang. Ewan ewan ewan. Damn--where'd I put that holy water?

Somewhat disheveled,

Molly

I believe the correct American-English translation of ""Complainte de la Butte," would be "Catspaw's Song", or something close to it.

A

But not TOO close, please!

ROTFLMAO!!!

I've been away far too long ;)

Though I'm glad to be out of my job (unemployment has been kind of nice so far...better not get used to it!), not having routine email access is a major pain in la Butte. Sigh. I'll do my best.

I've often wondered, of all those old sappy movies they drag out these days, why dont they show the original Moulin Rouge, starring Jose Ferrer as Toulous Lutrec. Anybody have a clue?

Rufus Wainwright is indeed the son of Loudon Wainwright and Kate McGarrigle. He also has a song called Instant Pleasure in the Adam Sandler film, Big Daddy. If you like his stuff he's got 2 CDs out, Poses and Rufus Wainwright. He also has a sister called Martha who is brilliant, but hasn't got a record deal yet.

Hope that helps! Daisy

Firecat? How could you? He's from the wrong side of the pennines (and on the wrong side of 30) for you! I can see that next time I'm at the Jug I'll have to put on my best Mancy accent and wear a parka...

(Only Kidding if you hadn't guessed;-))

I don't have this ShaniaShaniaShania problem at all.

Yes, I'm all fired up about Rufus Wainwright now. I didn't realize it was him singing "Hallelujah" in "SHREK" until I'd heard him in M.R. and went back to look for other stuff by him. He's cute, too (though not as cute as EWANEWANEWAN!!! ;D)

Sigh. Must be good. No buying CDs, molly.

Jayohjo ps - anyone seen Velvet Goldmine? Ewan McGregor in eyeliner, emerging all hot and sweaty from a rather too rock and roll party....am going to have to go and have a lie down....

Having behaved myself with perfection the only time I was in the Moulin Rouge (in 1965 or so) in the company of some Mid Westeners, I feel rather nervous at the hero worship I am now attracting here. [I am as far as I know the oldest Ewan in captivity - I was Ewan in 1941, MacColl was Jimmy Millar till 1945 or later.]

Ok all :) Sorry I'm only dipping into the discussion every so often, but my email access is sporadic. I'll post the lyrics to "Complainte de la Butte", but I don't have time to put in line breaks at the moment :(. But have a crack at it.

Ah Liz! Have you ever thought of a career in the diplomatic corps? Or advertising?
That post was akin to "don't buy Sudso, it's crap", or "vote for me or I drown these luvverly kittens"! I just hope Juliette Binchoche never gets round to reading it.
That's certainly the last time I'll allow you to pick up my shattered remains and drape me over a fence like a damp nappy.
*sigh*. It's so difficult being an international sex symbol these days...
...at which our hero belches (again relishing the leeks he had eaten earlier), farts incautiously twice and scratches something nasty and wizzened in the folds of his shorts...
