Venue search: Anything in Shrewsbury?

10 Jul 01 - 02:30 PM (#503264)
Subject: Any music in Shrewsbury?
From: McGrath of Harlow

A friend's just phoned me saying they are in Shrewsbury (England) later this week, and wondering if there's any kind of folk sessions around there. (Preferably a session that welcome the odd poet.)

I couldn't find anything, browsing round the net, but it was only a short browse. I'm hoping someone out there will do better.

Hello - yes there's a fair bit going on in these parts. P-mail me with some details about when and where they're planning to be and I'll see what's on.

It's our session in Llanfair Caereinion next Thursday, 19th July. At the Red Lion. It's a 25 mile drive from Shrewsbury.
Cheers, Bron.

Hi!

Much the same information required as in the original thread enquiry. My wife and I are staying in Church Stretton Mon-Thur 23-26 July. Anything nearby?

Cheers!
Ian

Session venues in Shrewsbury have a habit of moving around, but possible places (pubs) to check would be The Wheatsheaf (High Street), The Canal Tavern (Castlefields), The Globe (Coleham Head), The Swan (Frankwell), The Loggerheads (Church Street), The Dog and Pheasant (Castlefields). I'm afraid I couldn't even begin to suggest which night would be worth checking which pub.

Radio Shropshire Sun nights networked to Radio H&W and Radio WM
shameless plug cresby.com might be of interest - it has tel nos also
the previous post seems more knowledgeable but he does give a caveat (and some of the venues seem a bit new to me but it is very marginal for my lists)
nickthefiddle often tells me updates so does Alan Price (of folk on Radio Shrops). I do have their e-mail addresses.

Any updates on venues in the area you care to share please e-mail with info folkofax@cresby.com. Ta
The Boat at Jackfield (down a long dead end by the river) every Thurs irish - comhaltas -(and pretty strictly music).
not sure about poets but consider Ludlow Charlton Arms. Loggerheads is current.
